A couple of years ago my daughter was hired as a 5th grade teacher of ELA and social studies. She was a polisci major and has a law degree (in addition to a masters in el ed), so social studies is her passion. She was not allowed to teach it until after tcaps, she could only teach ela for the test.

I teach students how to take standardized tests: excelling at these tests is a far cry from actual education. Many charter schools currently drill students on their TCAPs, at the expense of teaching comprehension & critical thinking.
