#Technotopia
If a friend wore this to a Halloween party I'd politely compliment them but we are also peons in the oncoming technotopia. Zuckerberg has the money to look better than he does. His stylist hates him.

This. This is the pinnacle of technotopia Donald Fagen had in mind when he wrote IGY.

The digital world of 2025 is an increasingly dark place—promises of an end-of-history, neoliberal technotopia have foundered on the rocks of monopoly, nativism, and a fractured epistemological understanding of the world. I’ve personally seen the retreat from the “digital public square” to semi-private spaces: group chats, invite-only servers, forums. Some of them are “group chats that rule the world.” Indeed, we seem to be, collectively, past “Peak Social Media.” This week, Julia Kieserman investigates the rise of a different sort of digital private space: social location sharing.

Frog Detective and Technotopia are really fun. I also picked up a demo of something called Noel The Mortal Fate, so I'll check that out.

I'm a bit curious, so I'll see if I can spot a Japanese game dev with my bad Japanese.

They want serfs.

They want people to pledge loyalty and fealty to them. They envision themselves as the cyberkings of their technotopia.

Really they’re just giant assholes that other assholes hope to feed off their crumbs.

- Technotopia (despite my distaste for card-based games, it's SO good)
- SENTRY remains an outstanding hybrid of tower defense and Halo
- Edge of Sanity is an incredible 2D horror/management sim

And I've just been sent Ratshaker, which looks like a very odd take on FPS horror

**(cont) Arguably it should be Technotopia, since techno- is the combining form of the word, e.g. as in technology, but I think techtopia is snappier.

***The alternative to currency is not barter, as many would have you believe, but ledgers and optionally fixed rates of exchange for commodities.

Started playing Technotopia (deck-building city builder video game), and by far the hardest part is deciding between making the most advantageous choice for my run versus the morally right choice.

Technotopia is everything I've ever wanted out of a roguelike city builder. Moody soundtrack, gorgeous art direction and a great plotline, to boot. Can't recommend it enough!

I finished the story of Technotopia. It's a casual roguelite, cardbased citybuilder. I wish the story was longer but it is fun and relaxing. I had a good time with it.

Agree completely.

A lot of them came in as libertarians who came to that from Heinlein and sometimes Ayn Rand or Cryptonomicon. The graduated with much the same beliefs and the ones who went to work for tech companies had them augmented with technotopia nonsense.

I went to grad school lol.

Tech degrees need more humanities requirements. The best major class I ever took for my Comp.Sci degree was "Issues and Ethics in Computer Science" taught with a highly philosophical bent. Philosophy, psychology, anthropology, sociology, it all would help disabuse the idea of technotopia.

Technotopia – precarious stability and balance
I saw a video recently about a game I'd never heard of called Technotopia. It looked interesting, despite some flaws. So I went to look it up on Steam and saw that it (1) had been updated a few times since the video came out, so maybe had fewer flaws, and (2) was a whole $3.34 at the time, on sale from a regular price of $5, so why the hell not try it?

wow - technotopia rescue looking ever more shakily by the day
“All-electric DAC deployed at large scale — say, 10 gigatonnes of CO2 removed annually — would require 12,000 terawatt-hours of electricity, which is more than 40 percent of total global electricity generation today”
