See the big wacky black thing at the top? It's Scutus antipodes, a keyhole limpet!! A weirdo more closely related to abalone than true limpets (quoted) or slugs.

Orange tidepool rock covered with life. The largest is a big black sluglike creature, several inches long, and it looks kind of like black Aplysia but if you cut off the top and the whitish internal shell was on display. Its anterior tentacles are also visible just within the water. All over the rest of the rock are at least 5 chitons, a number of barnacles, an unidentified black object (I don't think another Scutus antipodes), and what I'm pretty sure are serpulid worm tubes. Yeah, the worms that have eyes

2350m up in the Alps, under da sea, and in between. Heliciniae indet, Doriprismatica atromarginata, Aplysia californica
Heliciniae crawling on a plant in a rock fissure, Gemmipass, Switzerland. The snail is maybe 1-2cm, light colored shell with slight striations in the direction of growth. Mantle is yellowish brown. Eyestalks are out! Doriprismatica atromarginata in Tulamben, Bali. It's a white nudibranch with ruffled mantle edges that are edged in black Aplysia, a sea hare, cruising a tidepool filled with coralline algae. It's mostly dark pink/purple, the color it will ink if you make it upset

🐍🎨♥️ an abstract digital collage featuring multicolored swirls of of teal, red, orange and black. there are several symbols of star bursts and a stylized logo reading "LOUR" across the image. on the side of the image in bright text are the words: "wishfully thinking it's 5am, nauseated on giving it all up again" poem: humming like raspy breathing, all consuming oxygen. filling air with walls and walls and walls of sharpened gravel. completely intangible. clicking and chittering into a sharp white noise that sounds like a soul losing its sense of self. static is growing proportional to daylight; to absence and a need to fill the pit with swirling forget. liquid behind the eyes, liquid in the mouth, wishing for liquid suffocating the brain drowning it as it sinks out to the bottom of the tidepool. becoming a small landscape, and center of the world to the things that will gladly burrow and consume and digest everything inside it like the waste it was always made out to be from where it fell. it's sick. it's dying. it can't spear out the rot and destroy it with gnawing teeth and burning, boiling acid. even as it creates specters from the stones and traps itself behind itself and it's current flesh. locked behind in an absence of itself, a reverse vignette where the borders of the space, blurred because it's far too close to see. surely there's something there. just one happy vision, something to ground the desire to make everything you know a falsehood, and need to believe is just misplaced as the reality of the memory itself is. the unfortunate reality pried open with bruised hands is that the black stain on these images needs to be there, has to maintain its film spots and dust to these reels of childhood and adolescent mistakes expose too much hurt or too much clarity. truth that needs to be interpreted second hand like shapes in smoke and steam bellowed from a strong exhale in the dry air. poem continued: elaborating in the gap and finding the comfortable middlepoint between the feelings the heart and it's racing pulse can't deny and a reality exaggerated by a patchy memory. it's not safe to deny the sensitive raw flesh. cannot be touched without stinging salted hands leaving imperceptible burns to a world that's not always like this, but unwise to pretend that everything isn't shattered and crunching in sharp gnarls of glass reflecting back less than a broken image, pixels and bulbs that create a larger picture from a perspective that only comes from being so much higher along on the path and narrative. story telling to justify everything and anything. disconnected from a reality, flattening everything into lush images directed by the perfect ever prescient invisible eye. lines dictated by changes in the wind and gestures acted as perfectly as blood cells tumbling through the body. everything is must be done as naturally as possible while following along to every step laid out before. everything is quite real but only if you know it's all a thickly spread oily illusion, like scraping grease from a forehead with long fingernails under too many stage lights. everything is falling apart as it's supposed to because a narrative low is the only possible justification for the terror and distress and confusion and misery that has unfolded right as everything was supposed to become earnest and real and safe and fresh and loud and bright and colorful. unfortunately everything is soft, muted and grey, but it's a comforting grey, exposed long enough and the humming guttural fluff consuming the air like spilled concrete on a gasping desperate mouth, eventually the body and the mind can shape itself to a reality that lets it feel okay when everything is so obviously not. that lets the grey become a cloudy blanket, insulating even if cold, and warm even as the flesh grows cold and pallid under it's drying cracking killing weight. poem continued: (jesus christ this thing is like 6000 characters I had to scramble to grab something for the bluesky post) it's sick and it's dying and it's grey and it's muffled everything spoken and destroyed any hope of happiness as it ought to be. instead you shatter what's died; stone from rigor mortis and and you pulverize it into something that might one-day become happiness, even if it's only for a few days before accepting that this was all that was ever meant for such a role in the performance of life. with quivering lines barring wet and slowly shirked desire to be somewhere, anywhere else, from the hurt that shaped the soul that still tried to grow despite its chances buried in an ever early sunset. with an abundance of love to give and a stomach churn that spoils every ounce.

I drop down to look closer. Hermit crabs. At least four, ambling along the pebbly tidepool floor in their stolen snail shell houses. "We're getting pretty lucky today, James notes. "Sometimes, I'd come down here and not find shit worth looking at."
