Well, I applaud the random insertion of the Medics in #TopGunsC4 but it could have been even better to show the wide number of Trades & Branches involved in running an RAF station.

A lot of people help get a Typhoon in to the air.

It’s also hammed up for the cameras by doing a scramble at the run.

Reality is that the team at Boulmer are watching the intruder, and they liaise constantly with the Typhoon QRA pilots so the scramble is done in a coordinated manner.

But it doesn’t make great tv I suppose.

I watched a video of a Tornado F3 descending towards the sea and you can hear the GPWS warning the crew.
Both the pilot and nav ignored the GPWS, but luckily they snapped out of it and pulled up in time.
Being focussed on engaging your target should never be overridden by loss of SA.

When I did the safety case for another aircraft the danger of firing the cannon at a ground target was something I had to look at.

FFS.

Narrator it’s not a machine gun.

They’re not bullets.

It’s a cannon.

They’re firing something a lot bigger than a bullet.

Even the pilot said it’s a cannon!

It seems that the RAF uniform might work for someone sat working in Supply or Admin - but it’s still not fit for purpose for people working on aircraft.

I have lots of sympathy for the men & women employed in aircraft servicing and maintenance professions in the RAF. I can remember a TG1 guy getting bollocked on our Sgt promotion course because his No.2 trousers had oil stains on them.

When the armchair dimwit at HQ Air decreed that the OG coveralls were to be phased out, and they reintroduced the two shades of blue coverall (we last had in the late 80s; they could have included hi-viz panels… or a bigger & better vest that actually secures around a wearer.

#TopGunsC4

The totally pointless wearing of hi-viz vests.

#TopGunsC4

If anything they’re more of a FOD hazard.

I fracking despair.

It’s my #AvGeek fix again with #TopGunsC4

I think we’re in for some QRA action for the final episode.

I’m a little perplexed as to why IX Sqn use the callsign Tirpitz… I know the reason why… #NavalHistory but they’re on NATO Ops in Romania and does nobody give a toss about the political aspects?

They’re basically flying their aircraft using their callsign named after a Nazi warship.

And they never explain why a different crew get the drone airborne (and land it) and then handover to the crew back in the UK.

#TopGunsC4

The Americans do the same for their ops out of Nellis AFB in Nevada.

LMAO. Segue from an RC-135 taking off (a mate of mine is a Master AEOp on them) to the drone crews wearing their flying suits as they navigate the coffee machine.

I hadn’t den this. Interesting.

Still makes wonder why nobody appears to have been disciplined for failing to control the airspace and ordering the C-UAS system to be turned off.

Don’t make it easy for the enemy.

And I think describing Armourers as ‘pin monkeys’ is going to get Meatball a good shoeing.

Plumbers cover everything from small arms (pistols and L85) used by everyone in the RAF, to flares carried by pilots in their survival gear to Paveway bombs and Storm Shadow missiles.

My neighbour in the block at RAF Waddington was a ‘fairy’. Being a scopie I’d never met any of the aircraft trades before. So all the nicknames and lingo were an eye opener.

I remember that attack that killed the 3 American service people on the Syrian border.

They were expecting ‘friendly drones’ to return to their base and turned their C-UAS system off.

Haven’t heard of any public report being issued since the incident.

Well, @waspbox.bsky.social and I are unexpectedly in bits after catching up on last week's #TopGunsC4. We remembered the news story, but that was a gut punch. Very well handled by all involved in the programme.

It’s a sticking plaster on the problem if we deploy Typhoons rather than ground troops.

And if we do deploy Typhoons would they be based in Poland or do we send more jets to Romania? Plus tanker support? And do we send 1ACC with their radar? The JFAC?
