WIP Wunday?? apologies if you're waiting for the next chapter of tsats, this candy maker Stede fic that's been bouncing around in my ideas folder for ages suddenly reached up and grabbed me by the throat. 🍭🍬
Stede the gold embroidery on his apron reads, which is a fucking ridiculous name for a person in the twenty-first century to be walking around with. Ed spots him in the background of a few videos and hones in on him immediately, like a bloodhound who specializes in pastel-flavored dilfs. Curling blond hair, broad chest, broad shoulders, and a dimpled smile that would stop traffic. His button-up shirts are so perfectly fitted that Ed is absolutely certain they’re tailored. Short-sleeved, some in crisp white and others in bold, tasteful patterns that coordinate perfectly with the turquoise of the apron. Most of the time he’s got the first couple buttons open, and Ed gives in to the guilty impulse to pause the videos and zoom in to catch a blurry glimpse of gold-spun chest hair. When he doesn’t have the buttons open, it’s because he’s wearing a fucking bowtie. Christ. As if that weren’t enough, he’s often got one of those pointy retro diner hats (cloth, naturally, not paper) perched merrily on top of his perfectly coiffed hair. Ed’s never seen anyone else in the shop wear one. Ed is obsessed with him. Stede is often the one doing demonstrations for the people who stop to watch at the shop’s window, and Ed can see why. There’s a performative quality to him, a showmanship to his gestures, a particular lilt to his voice as he explains this or that aspect of the candy making process. He doesn’t actually seem to be the most skillful confectioner of the bunch (the sing-song cadence of his “Whoopsie!” when a slab of toffee gets away from him does things to Ed that he would rather not examine too closely), but what he lacks in talent he makes up for in determination and charm. Ed follows @BonnetConfections, taps the bell for notifications, and starts a collection in his bookmarks labeled “Candy Man.” That’s a normal thing to do. People do that. People get a little fixated on interesting strangers they find online. People get a little stomach-flipping thrill when there’s a new video posted and the handsomest man they’ve ever fucking laid eyes on is in it, smiling and laughing and slinging a huge slab of sugar around like it’s nothing. Normal. Totally normal. What’s maybe a wee bit less normal is turning up at his shop.

wip wunday night moves snippet, just because i love them.
Ed shrugs and takes another little puff of his vape before brushing his hair out of his face a bit. “I get up pretty early for work, so I can’t say I get up to much these days,” he admits, which makes sense, but it’s sort of hard to imagine Ed Teach as a morning person. Maybe he’s still not, but he makes it work; that’s probably true of lots of people, Stede supposes, himself included, for many years. “Dinner, laundry, bit of TV, maybe. I’ve been doing an X-Files rewatch.” Stede’s heart flutters a little. “Have you? I haven’t seen it in ages,” he chuckles, flicking some ash from his cigarette and taking a drag. “Does it hold up?” “I mean, depends on what you mean by that,” Ed laughs, slipping his e-cigarette into his pocket. “Mostly yes, though. Fuck, that reminds me: I’m pretty sure I saw a sasquatch a few years ago.” Stede snorts as he puts out his cigarette, sliding the butt into his pack to dispose of later. “What!? You did not!” he huffs, although, yeah, of course he’s more than ready to believe it, if he’s honest. “I swear!” Ed chuckles, casually folding his arms over his chest. He looks comfortable, open; it’s nice. “I was dating this guy who kept insisting on going camping, which, y’know, isn’t really my thing, but we were out on some fucking ridge in the middle of nowhere and one night, there was this crazy snapping sound in the woods, which– he said it was probably a bear, as if that’d make me feel better– anyway, I grabbed a flashlight so I could try to see what was up and there was this fuckin’ huge, hairy thing–” “A bear,” Stede teases, mirroring Ed’s posture. “Fuck off, this was not a fucking bear,” Ed insists good-naturedly. “It was, like, way too tall, and it definitely walked on two legs. It was fuckin’ fast, too, but like I said, its legs were, like, fucking four feet long. Anyway, long story short, it was definitely a sasquatch, and I’d expect you, of all people, to believe me.”

The caress on his skin of the silk sheets, tangled between his legs, was real and fucking amazing, too. The looseness in his whole body ideal but also new. Ed turned on his back and stretched out. He breathed in slowly, lungs expanding, brain a flat battery. It had been years since he had felt that calm and relaxed upon waking up. Come to think about it... He looked to his left and stole a glance at the alarm. It was well past 10. He had slept for about eight hours straight for the first time in a long while. No wonder he felt that good. No wonder... after the previous night..."
