A time zone is 900 nautical miles. Across that time zone, a celestial navigator will find that the zenith of the sun is not always at noon by the clock. It varies a little across that expanse. So the ticking of our clocks and the movement of the natural world are not the same. #sailing #womenwhosail

I've just completed my first celestial navigation session, and I found it oddly...grounding; in my humanity, in my place between the Earth and sun and stars. It made me think about what it means to cultivate a skill that locates me in place/time using only my mind and hands. #sailing #womenwhosail
