#ZDWars2 : Chex Quest was the faction I was happiest from game 1. Due to them being clones of Doom monsters, I had to get creative, resulting in the strongest central concept. In the sequel, ALL factions are planned from the ground up.🧵

Unreal to have an entire tier of #ZDWars2 complete. The game is still missing several core systems that make it stand out from the original (Eco, Orders, the LMS game mode itself), but it’s got a meaningful amount of playable content.🧵

Chex Quest
The Unending Faction

Chex Quest does not buy tiers: instead every Flemoid adds to the player’s Goop Mass. High enough Goop Mass unlocks more tiers. They are all about numbers, and their attacks drag air units downward.🧵

Okay, so, my hatred for doing menus is justified. Took me ages to get Doom’s Tier 2 menus working because I had the first two-upgrade menu to do. Mind you: now that I’ve done it once, the rest will be miles easier.🧵

Rewrote the splitting behavior for both Common Flemoids and Greater Prisms. Previously I was using A_PainDie because spawning unit-creating projectiles made monsters that were hostile to their owner. So I had a weird solution:🧵

One of my biggest lodestars with ZDoom Wars 2’s design is ASYMMETRY. Few things in a game make me happier than asymmetry. It was really Tremulous, Savage, and Savage 2 that taught me that asymmetry was crazy cool.🧵

As things are statted out with basic balance passes, I’ve noticed that most factions experience a smooth transition between Tiers 1 and 2, then there’s a jump in unit costs for Tier 3. A few thoughts:🧵

I guess I haven’t detailed the Bruiser Brother mechanic for Doom.

In Tier 3, Doom players unlock Hell Nobles. Hell Nobles can be upgraded to become Barons, then get a choice of 2 other upgrades: Melee AOE or enhanced acid balls. 🧵

#ZDWars2 : There are 3 special damage types in the game: Poison, Electric, and Ice. Poison deals extra damage over time to Bio units, Electric has a chance to stun Mech units, and Ice slows all types of units (except Lost Souls and Afrits, which instead take extra ice damage).🧵

Faction Spotlight: Heretic
The Shock Faction

Heretic is the fastest faction, and their units can spam abilities a limited number of times before having to recharge out of combat. They can spawn units in clusters, meaning they can materialize an army in moments.🧵

Advanced units require Prismatic Energy to operate at full capacity. This is provided by generators and by Prism units. Don’t go into the red, or your elite units will go into low power mode!
