When first assessed for MaC, you're shoved onto CHSP. Why? Because there are no funds. If you live rurally - no providers. So then you wait. And wait. & wait. Until you have a fall or incident which hospitalises you. Then you're discharged back home & it all repeats ad nauseum.

Quelle surprise.
This is what happens when the aged care (oxymoron) system is broken and successive governments will not fix it, knowing we are all going to die sooner rather than later so why not speed up the process.

So despite 30 years of debilitating chronic worsening disability, I've been assessed over the phone as only eligible for CHSP. As further penance because I live rurally, there is only one provider. They dont provide meals, osteo, or social support in my area.

Today I started down the My Aged Care rabbit hole.First phone call advised me an assessor would be in touch within the next few weeks, then said help might take up to 18 months or more. The person said, & I quote: "The system is broken".I will be documenting my experiences here.

I'm going to kill myself rather than go into residential aged care. I know this is Scotland but Australia has a hideous record as well.

We like to go about our lives pretending we’ll never grow old. Therefore most try to ignore the aged, despite the fact they were once young and just like ourselves.
The least they deserve is a standard of care we would wish for ourselves and this isn’t it.

"The Albanese Government continues to repeat that 83,000 new packages represent a historic investment. It ignores the reality that by its own forward estimates, this number will be grossly insufficient within a year, and catastrophic within a decade."

"It is a system that effectively punishes people for being old & unwell. The government has rejected the long-standing principle that fees should be based on capacity to pay. Instead, it has designed a model that will burden people on low incomes with charges they cannot afford."

"The government’s approach is also riddled with contradictions. It says it wants to reduce demand for residential care, yet the design of Support at Home will inevitably drive people into institutions."

Except - there are NO beds!
