'Commit suicide' implies a sin or criminal act. This terminology would risk stigmatising terminally ill patients. Furthermore, this amendment adds nothing in terms of clarity, workability, or safety to the #AssistedDyingBill, yet valuable time was spent debating it.

Should the #AssistedDyingBill fail, it would not only be devastating for terminally ill people and their families, but would also undermine our democracy – with unelected peers thwarting the clear will of the House of Commons through procedural delay.

Extra debating time may not save the 'Assisted Dying' Bill
Extra time may improve the so-called ‘Assisted Dying’ Bill, but it is very unlikely to make it “acceptable” to all sides — and it may not even be enough to get it passed.

Peers, including the Lords Spiritual, should come out and say they are philosophically opposed to assisted dying, instead of 'hiding behind a thousand amendments' that are designed to wreck the #AssistedDyingBill. @peterprinsleymp.bsky.social 👏

Extra time is welcome, given that a number of peers have been attempting to derail the #AssistedDyingBill. Peers should use this time to do their job properly: providing serious, proportionate scrutiny focused on the needs of dying people, not procedural gamesmanship.

Dragging terminally ill people from their death beds to appear in court to plead their case is objectively cruel.

Should peers cause the #AssistedDyingBill to fail, it would be unimaginably devastating for terminally ill people and their families.

This is part of a much wider issue. It’s crucial that peers engage with the #AssistedDyingBill in good faith and allow it to proceed through proper debate, rather than using procedural tactics to delay or obstruct it.
