Last year the Supreme Court ruled that punishing a person for sleeping in public, even if they have nowhere else to go, doesn't violate the Eighth Amendment’s cruel and unusual punishment clause.

In the year since the decision, cities have passed nearly 220 bills criminalizing unhoused people.

This is what I fled with Esmé. This is why her acute heart failure and death hurt even more. We had just gotten out of there. I was finally able to keep her safer.

I am homeless. I need people who uplift me. People who abuse homeless women & ESA dogs with nowhere to go are the worst of the worst

i won’t get all of the likes or traction that Gwen Snyder did.

i can’t even fully fund an over year-old crowdfund as a survivor and having fled recent DV this past Nov. i cut my teeth on community organizing. i was very good at it. still homeless. Esmé’s still dead.

but yes.
the facts are:

people do not believe survivors.

there is a sickly, guilty embarrassment, a sort of, "why are you making a big stink out of nothing?" blame implied.

it's the emergence of denial, white supremacist racial capitalist patriarchy, and rape culture.

it's why people don't speak out.

people who experience violence, rape, and harm reserve the right to support and real community care. instead, society expects that we shoulder the costs of long-term—and often disabling—health effects of environmental insults, then blames us for our poverty and our failing health.
