#bandwidth
I know some ppl struggle to understand this, but none of us owe our time, attention, & emotional bandwidth to anyone. Taking steps to make a platform enjoyable, curating our online experience, IS the healthy thing to do.

Some of us have to deal with assholes in person every day that we can't avoid.
Blocking hatemongers is one thing but this trend of using mass block lists to avoid hearing from people who might or might not hold points of view you expect to disagree with is unhealthy imo and hurts the platform.

Bluesky was better off with folks like Margaret Mitchell and Giada Pistilli on it.

Let's cut the guy some slack! He get's real time alerts about his son's porn intake. I mean, humans only have so much bandwidth.

Completely agreed - we did try Tapas, but it required us to *completely* resize the previous updates and we just don’t have that kind of bandwidth, unfortunately.

legit cannot fathom somehow *downgrading* my already less than stellar mental health scores to muster the interest or emotional bandwidth for the “a stranger thinks that’s just about enough outta your ugly ass, emily” text hotline.
“i signed up to get a special text message every time someone i’ve never met decides they don’t like me” is the pitch that finally gets my therapist to start hitting me.
clearsky is the devil anyway. why would i care about losers who hate me? it's nobodies who are self selecting out of my life. everyone subscribed to listifications should turn that shit off immediately

(the downside to the ps2's absolutely insane bandwidth is a very small ram cache, meaning that games do wacky shit like stream in high-poly meshes in parts and assemble them back together on the vector processing units before the frame is drawn)

Honestly, if it were just that easy to talk to anyone with the emotional bandwidth to handle our problems, we wouldn't need this. This goes especially towards people who don't even want you calling their phone for anything.

It's been 2 and a bit years of nonstop daily cardposting but I'm going to officially call a pause here. Not because there are no more cards (there are many more cards), but because I am so busy right now that I just don't have the mental bandwidth for daily card photos.

Cardposting Will Return...
Posting an interesting Alicesoft trading card of the day every day until I forget and break the chain.

Even among creators I like, some streams are just hard for me to watch. If I wanted background noise, there are probably other sites (or my personal library) I could hit up that would use less less of my computer's memory and bandwidth.

Two years of being ignored and neglected must be my internal clock because these clowns also had 2 whole fucking years of me warning them my bandwidth for this shit was over, AND THEY STILL FUCKING TRIED IT

Just like the original criminals had 2 years to get their fuck shit together

Here's the thing: Most people don't have the bandwidth to bedown in the weeds on housing policy.
They need to be able to trust their Council rep to do this for them & educate them.
For that many people to be blindsided, that didn't happen.
When they showed up at Council, they weren't heard.

hhhh I think using a poor sad little 100Mbps internet bandwidth limit is starting to cause issues with my stuff
I don't know why it's suddenly causing issues because it never did for a long time
I'll have to check nethogs and see what's using all of my bandwidth
I'm forced to continue using the […]

Diplomacy is an essential social technology, because (unlike the people living in them) the 200-odd countries in the world do live in the kind of environment that game theory describes. Diplomacy adds bandwidth to communications that are otherwise simple “trade vs war”. This is super dangerous
This is quite a story: the US employed every strongarm tactic available, including personal threats against delegates and their families, to derail an agreement on reducing shipping emissions that was almost finalized. on.ft.com/47lq3dZ

So it is mostly irrelevant for most discussions, but when I do bring it up, I bring it up because it matters. Frequently people also seem to not be aware of how the difference can occasionally significantly change calculations (network bandwidth costs are an easy example)
