Yesterday, I woke up determined to figure out the first Beyblade game on the Game Boy Color.
How complicated can a Beyblade game be? It's just spinning two tops and seeing which one lasts longer. I thought I'd be able to breeze through it. I was wrong. It's one of those titles that took me around three hours to get past the introduction chapter. As such, I've yet to complete the game - but I thought I'd write about the sequence of events leading up to obtaining your first Beyblade Licence where the game opens up, as there's surprisingly little information online about how the game works. Hopefully, this will help some other people get their Beyblade licence! First, I need to talk more about the game's release. Jisedai Begoma Battle Beyblade came out in 1999 on the Game Boy Color, which makes things a little more complex than you'd first imagine. It was released alongside the very first Beyblade toys ever made. There was no existing cartoon, no manga to base it on, and most notably, everyone wanted to be the next Pokemon. That means even Beyblade toys were paired with JRPG visuals, levelling up, elemental matchups, and a trading hook to make you want to collect all 198 Bit-Beasts. The manga, in fact, was based on this game, rather than the other way around. The game opens with your character registering for the World Beyblade Association (WBA) and being assigned a random ID number for multiplayer battles.

A lot of the mini games felt incredibly tedious and pointless. I'm glad only 2 of the mini games required lengthy play to unlock character. It's too bad they're some of the worst mini games. Cooking and Begoma are extremely tedious and boring. The theater is THE best but unlocking scripts however...
