The swallows are back at Sam Smith park. There is one field where volunteers maintain tree houses for the swallows. These are filled with tree swallows. Then down the path is a bridge where barn swallows build their homes.

It was there yesterday! For 3 days I sat out and watched birdsa while, adding a heavier jacket each day, knowing this cold mess was on the way.

Kākāpō 101 No. 4. Unlike most birds, #kakapo don't breed every year. They only breed every 2-4 years, when trees such as the rimu (a conifer) produce lots of fruit (or "mast"). This slow breeding is one of the reasons they're critically endangered. #conservation #parrots #birdsA
