On the right is visible part of the roller rink at Riverview Park. The four smokestacks in the distance visible (behind the bridgehouse) were part of the Commonwealth Edison coal-fired generating station on California Ave.

My old neighbourhood!
Great to see these improvements.
The Waterway or The Bridgehouse (both nearby) are watering holes where you are bound to come upon fellow urbanists (or was the case back when I lived there). Lovely settings for both.

Today is the 154th anniversary of the end of the Great Chicago Fire, and the beginning of Chicago’s “Regeneration,” the title of this sculpture by Henry Hering on SE Du Sable Bridge bridgehouse at Michigan & Wacker. The I Will Maiden personified Chicago’s energy. We will need that energy again soon.

Visited the Bridgehouse Chicago River Museum the other day. This is a unique little museum in the bridge tower of the Dearborn street bridge. I took my microbiology class so they could learn about the history and ecology of the Chicago River and its reversal.
