The Namibian Competition Commission (NaCC) has officially approved the acquisition of Big Daddy Clothing by Pep Stores Namibia. Commission spokesperson Dina //Gowases on Monday said the decision to approve the merger was made at a meeting last Thursday. Big Daddy Clothing is a family-owned retailer with 24 stores across Namibia, while Pep Stores Namibia is part of Pepkor Holdings Limited, which operates several major retail brands in the country, including Pep, Ackermans, Tekkie Town, Dunns, Refinery, and Shoe City. In a second approved transaction, JD Financial Services Proprietary Limited, also part of Pepkor Holdings, acquired the retail furniture segment, OK Furniture, and related assets, including the Furniture Debtors Book, from OK Bazaars Namibia Limited. “In both transactions, the commission’s investigation found that the proposed mergers would strengthen a dominant position and provide the merging parties with the ability to facilitate coordination, as envisaged by Section 47(2) of the Competition Act,” //Gowases said. The mergers were approved with conditions to support local suppliers, prevent product bundling, and avoid merger-related job losses.
