CARTOONBER 2025 #3 - Persistence Panel 1: A POV shot looking down at a large pile of rubble. Hands reaching out and attempting to lift and move the broken cement and rebar. Text: What do you do when your life is seen as lesser? What do you say when your neighbor deems you as vermin and a menace? Panel 2:The hands grip and pull at some rubble, additional sets join them as they dig. Through an opening in the debris, an arm can be seen, the skin torn and coated in dry blood and dust. Text 2: How can you be heard when your voice is endlessly muted and drowned out? When the blue sky turns red and burns over your head, where can you run for shelter? Panel 3: The main subject now holds the barely alive girl in his arms. She is badly hurt from the building collapsing on her, but her eyes are open. She is young, around 9 years old. Her face is sunken and thin, showing signs of starvation. Text 3: How can you be seen when your killers can bribe the world to turn a blind eye to your suffering? How can you fight back when any forceful effort is used to justify your starvation and suffering? How can you fight back when any forceful effort is used to justify your starvation and suffering? Panel 4: The first subject carried the girl threw the rubble of a street, but around them are others working together to pull people free. A truck nearby is being unloaded, with bags of supplies and food being passed out. A medical tent is being constructed at the end of the street, as everyone around them works together to try and keep each other safe. The Palestinian flag flies from a section of a bombed building overhead, tattered and damaged, but still fluttering in the breeze. Text 4: You refuse to die. You shout louder, you call out to anyone who will listen. You remind the world you are human. Because humanity can not be stripped from you, so long as your heart beats and your lungs draw breath. And you push ever onwards. From the river to the sea. Until you are free.

They are not even married. Nate does come over to also comfort Will, though Nyameow the cat is not pleased her bacon was ruined. Hitoshi scolds her for being mean, and Will only grows more distraught as the fire alarm starts to go off as smoke billows in the kitchen.

A 4 panel comic. Panel 1 -The sky in the mid/late evening hangs overhead. Rooftops can be seen looming in from the left and right of the panel. Mid town vibes, rather than central city, smaller story building, not exceeding 4-5 stories max. Glow of streetlights surround the frame, as does rising smoke and gas trails. Arms raise into the air, showing a protest. Narration Box 1: The city is loud tonight. A chorus of voices cry out for change. Box 2: Ears ring and head pounds. Home seems so far away, a distant desire to flee back to safety. Panel 2 - A low shot, showing a large crowd from the knees down. The road is covered in loose pamphlets and trampled signage. The smoke and gas swirls around on the ground, small stains from pepper shot impacts streak along the tarmac. The distance obscured by the crowd. Box 3: Everything hurts. Nostrils sting with toxic fire. Joints ache and beg for rest. Box 4: The ground shakes. Threatening to swallow you whole. Sensations overwhelm. Panel 3: A figure reaches down, offering a hand to the PoV character, who reaches out to grasp at it. The figure has their mouth and nose covered by a fabric mask and is wearing standard civilian clothing, with some extra padding of a jacket. More protesters can be seen marching across the frame, yelling and waving signs. Some point forwards, others hold up closed fists. Box 5: They say we do not belong. That we are unwanted and outsiders. Alien to this land. Less than Human. Box 6: But our hearts still beat. Our lungs draw breath. Our minds race with thought. We feel. Panel 4: It now looks over the heads of the crowd, their own arm extended and pointing. Over the crowd a ground of riot gear cops are visibly backing up and down the street, plastic shields and riot guns held tightly. The wall of bodies pushing towards them, not in assault but in defiance. Box 7: We are one. We are many. We have a voice. We have a purpose. Box 8: And so we rise. Together. Unbroken.

A five panel colored comic depicting four people, Hitoshi, Taro, Will and Nate, on a double date. On this page, Hitoshi is showing Nate how to make a Japanese rolled omelette, which he executes flawlessly. Only for them to notice a burning smell in the last panel, presumably caused by Will and Taro who said they would take care of the bacon part of breakfast.
