panel 2: a flashback of Neutra and Mary in college, Neutra with curly 80s hair and Mary with an afro. They are smiling and have their hands on each other's shoulders, as if posing for a photo. In a textbox, Mary's voiceover reads "We were both students at Wolfram Tech, yes, but we also roomed together and collaborated on projects."
Another text box starting on the next line, with an arrow pointing to panel 3 because I drew it on the right side of the page for some unholy reason (lack of pre-planning), reads "Despite Neutra pursuing Physics and I pursuing Biology, we shared a similar passion for science and used our combined skillset to further all kinds of research together.
Panel 3: Neutra and Mary are observing a bacteriophage-like creature with a single eye (a virophage) standing on a countertop. Neutra is cooing over it and has hearts around her, Mary is excitedly taking notes on a clipboard. panel 1. textbox reads "all of us were encouraged to prepare a talk on a subject relevant to our field of study, and some of the most-renowned scientists in the region would listen, after their own presentations of course." Mary is excitedly speaking into a microphone while displaying a slideshow titled "Reproductive Rituals of Perian Spiders."
panel 2: A man with spiky hair sits stone-faced in the audience. "One of them, if I recall, was Caesius Strontium", Mary informs us via the textbox.
panel 3: Caesius presents at a podium labeled "WT". Textbox: "His presentation wasn't anything remarkable. Mostly promoting his new startup, Quantum Energy. Charitably, he was more of a businessman to me than a scientist."
Panel 4: Mary begins, "Less charitably?" We close in on Caesius' smiling face from the side, as he gives us his presentation. "So you got rejected from the Science Institutes at Wolfram, fired from your job at the store, so what?" he says. "I'll give you all a chance, and together? We'll all build a better Perius." Mary tells it like she sees it. "A cult leader."
Panel 5: Mary says via textbox, "It wasn't his presentation that had me concerned, though." In the past, she sits with Neutra in the audience, nudging her with an elbow and going "pff- this guy, am I right?" Neutra shushes her, intent on hearing Caesius out.

Page 7.
panel 1: Neutra steels herself and gives her presentation. "Rather, it was what Neutra had to say that made her true colors apparent", Mary tells us and Elijah. Neutra says "If we could harness energy from Pokemon, we would be able to trade out fossil fuels and power lines for a cleaner, more renewable source. Think about it! We could even power areas like Darmstead and Thulia.
Panel 2: zoom out on neutra at the podium, in front of a slideshow displaying the silhouettes of a crablike creature and two serpentine creatures. She elaborates, "and which pokemon would be the best source of renewable energy for the Greater Perius Region? That's right, Sollistal, Chaosteam, and Melluid! The pokemon that embody the transience of matter themselves!.
Panel 3: in the foreground, someone in the audience raises a hand and says "question." Neutra allows them to answer. "yes?"
panel 4: an image spanning the full width of the page showing neutra standing over the podium with more determination, and more nondescript crowdspeople in the foreground asking questions. The first audience member asks "what about the so-called "Matter Guardians" being sacred to the people of Prasia?" Neutra answers "we can't let sentiment get in the way of progress. We'll have to put aside any personal feelings for the Greater Good." Another audience member asks "And how do you know they actually exist and aren't just the stuff of legend?" Neutra response "There have been multiple publicized tests on the mineral compounds and air quality at Copper Cave and Mt. Iron. The results are consistent with factors indicating the presence of large Pokemon."

page 8.

panel 1: we see Mary in the foreground looking back at Caesius talking to Neutra in the background. "I believe Dr. Strontium offered to hire you on the spot", Mary's textbox notes.

Panel 2: Textbox reads "But you turned him down." In the past, Neutra waves a hand apologetically and says "Sorry, I already have career plans. I'm going to work with Mary Acacia." Present-day Neutra chimes in with "well, at the time..."
Panel 3: Mary picks the story back up. "Even so, I had already made up my mind." Neutra is shown standing in the doorway of a dark, empty dorm room. "MJ?" she asks.
panel 4: Mary is shown from the side, silhouetted in except for her glasses, looking pensive. "I felt as though you had abandoned the ethics and integrity necessary to be a good scientist." There is no text box, we are seeing present-day Mary's thoughts fade in from the void of her past.
panel 5: on the bottom half of the page, we see past-Mary from head on, looking sad, still shadowed and standing in darkness. Present-day Mary's words are now in round bubbles. "I felt that your and Strontium's ideals did not match the truths of our world I wished to pursue. I wasn't sure if I could trust you to respect myself or my research. I feared you would eventually do something extreme. So I did the only thing I could think to do at the time. I left."

I wish I knew about these when designing chaosteam so I could give it a form based on them. And also I probably would've made chaosteam the copper legendary

(checks the date on these) yeah these are like 5 years old now. I know I just said on another post I shouldn't sell myself short but Iron/Chaosteam is the only one of these I still really like

Copper Cave is said to be the home of the legendary pokemon Sollistal, where Mt. Iron is said to be the home of Chaosteam.

The Basin once fed the famous Patina River, but it and the river have been dry for centuries. Plasmion and Erebyss are rumored to have been cited there.
