(I tend to feel more confident roleplaying as OCs, because they're my own character. I don't feel like I'm trampling on the spirit of a character if I take interest in them and end up writing them wrong.
Or at least, that's the fear I always have with canon characters.)

i keep making good character designs maybe but not really Me, just things i like. the closest i got was the lion but I think i gotta exaggerate more, lean into either making it look Cool or making it look Silly. i kind of went in the middle and i didnt like any of the reactions to it.
