People have asked me what is in tear gas grenades that make them burn so hot. The mixes vary a lot, but the old US Army M7 grenade (still used and much copies) has potassium chlorate, sugar, magnesium carbonate, cellulose nitrate, and the CS tear gas itself.

Oh, and diphtheria is fun- the treatment was to first gargle chlorate of potash. Then keep the patient fed with beef-tea. If still declining, give aconite and (!) belladonna for 4 hours, then hit them with mercury or the fumes of sulphur. Modern medicine, bah, am I right?

This has given me way too much to think about, I spent sooo much time in an enclosed atmosphere but we did ventilate from time to time but what about the hundreds of chlorate candles and oxygen generator? How much of that was atmospheric previously? So many questions.

Un volume de chlorate de soude,
Un volume de sucre-glace,
Non tassé = brasier ardent,
Tassé = Apocalypse Now.

Alors c’est pas liquide mais ça fait le job.

NB : les ventes/achats de chlorate de soude sont tracées depuis ≈ les années 00 en France, à cause que BOOOOM 💥

Advanced Chemistry: Thermochemistry.

KClO₃ = Potassium Chlorate
C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁ = Sucrose
H₂SO₄ = Sulfuric Acid

When potassium chlorate (KClO₃), sucrose (C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁), and sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) combine, sulfuric acid removes water from sucrose, creating carbon and water.

White smoke consists of a mix of potassium chlorate, lactose and a type of pine resin sometimes known as Greek pitch. These too can cause skin irritation, affecting white blood cells, kidney function, and can even cause asthmas over long-term inhalation. 4/5

And chlorate doesn't accumulate in the body. If you consumed US chicken your kidneys would filter out the chlorate and you'd pee it out. The argument against US chicken has always been that the chlorine hides the sins of unhygienic farming practices rather than the direct harm from chlorine itself.
