#chytridiomycosis
Hey #EcoEvo and #SymbioSky, what are your go-to reads for White Nose syndrome and Chytridiomycosis? Talking seminal papers in the field, but also recent major highlights.

Thanks for any recommendations!

I've been meaning to spend some time talking about the major reasons for so many toad species becoming extinct! I'll get around to that eventually, but the leading causes are human encroachment, climate change, and a fungal disease called chytridiomycosis!

🐸Panamanian golden frog (Atelopus zeteki).

Max. size: males 48 mm (1.9"), females 63 mm (2.5").

Belongs to Bufonidae, the true toads.

Threatened by habitat destruction and the fungal disease chytridiomycosis.

Considered Critically Endangered by the IUCN.

This was a fantastic study, where Waddle et al. where they conducted a 10-year study examining a wide range of factors that determined treatments for green and golden bell frog infected with chytridiomycosis 🐸 (5/n)

Not all frogs infected with B. dendrobatidis
develop chytridiomycosis.

Geographically, the disease is not always present
where the fungus is.

Panzootics are more likely in the presence of
immunotoxic and microbiome-damaging
pollutant mixtures.

Native to a narrow range in Central America, they're at risk of becoming endangered because of both habitat loss & a spreading fungal disease called Chytridiomycosis that is responsible for a global decline in amphibian populations.

Did you know that intestinal parasites can increase the growth and fitness of frogs? Our new study shows that nematode parasites actually are helpful to the frog while the fungal disease chytridiomycosis causes sublethal effects. @that-frog-gorl.bsky.social

Frog populations are declining due to several factors, including a deadly fungal disease called chytridiomycosis, habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. These issues have led to significant decreases in their numbers and even extinctions of some species worldwide

🐸 Chytridiomycosis - a deadly fungal disease - has devastated amphibian populations worldwide. Australia’s alpine tree frog (Litoria verreauxii alpina) has been hit hard, with declines across 80% of its range.
