#cinnamon-desktop-environment
I use a version of Linux Mint called Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE). This exists in case Ubuntu cannot be used as a base to create Linux Mint. Mint uses its own desktop environment called Cinnamon, which is very friendly for Windows users. I am also into Raspberry Pi, which uses Debian as well.

Yup. It's remarkable what you can do with software when you aren't trying to get people to buy a new computer. And Cinnamon isn't even a "lightweight" desktop environment!

I was about to go to bed but decided Cinnamon (the desktop environment) fucking sucks, so I started setting up xfce, which led me to try LibreWolf, which led me to try the "vertical tab bar", which led me to think about web layout, which made me open Krita and draw a silly image, and now it's 4 am.

Ubunut and Mint compete as "go-to" starter distributions. Mint's default desktop environment (called a "DE") is called Cinnamon, and it's Windows-like in its desktop:

They also have a cinnamon desktop environment, and it's like... why tho? Are they stupid?

Mint has been billed to Linux newcomers for a long time, and its forums are a great source of support for Linux users past and present. Many blogs exist specifically to help Mint users find their way. Its desktop environment, Cinnamon, is made to mimick the look and feel of Windows.

I'm not sure if I'd call myself a fan of Linux as a whole, nor would I say I'm a fan of Canonical, but I do really like Linux Mint in particular. It's rock solid and stable, Cinnamon is a great desktop environment, and it's proven minimally intrusive when it comes to my particular workflow.

Honestly Mint is SUCH an easy install. You'll get a choice of which desktop environment and I think the default is Cinnamon, which is what I used with Debian LInux anyways. It's all step by step and really an easy setup. Once it's done you'll have an easy time finding everything.

Both are Ubuntu based,so it really comes down to whether you want Cosmic or Cinnamon for your default Desktop environment. For someone used to windows 10 and previous I'd recommend Mint for Cinnamon.

All of that can be changed post install, though.
