A deranged obsession with progress & "evolution" hitched to technological innovation at all costs is endemic to the cyberutopianism of all tech billionaires. Ask them whether the conditions necessary to wellbeing are required to produce new forms of knowledge & they sputter nonsense like this.

My most recent work on AI. Because often we forget that behind the #hype and #cyberutopianism, AI is being generally funded not for #altruism or the good of humanity, but to automate labour and reduce costs, much to the expense of the social.

Rdg GenZ Internet criticism + history is such a trip. Ah, remember when naive cyberutopianism emerged, way back in 2012? Remember the days before Squarespace when ppl built scrappy websites by forging code on a letterpress? Remember back before Adobe, when images were immutable and trustworthy?
