#event-sourcing
Earlier this year I read “I Heart Logs”, which wound up feeling like a prelude to later learning about Event Sourcing…

I Heart Logs
Why a book about logs? That’s easy: the humble log is an abstraction that lies at the heart of many systems, from NoSQL databases to cryptocurrencies. Even though most engineers... - Selection from I ...

I’ve been on a learning journey with Event Sourcing for a bit now, seems like CQRS also could fit in here? Most of my reading has been with in the (red) DDD book, and it’s been interesting to see how nicely the concepts dovetail with others!

I'll be adding this article (and enriching my talk on the topic) to my list of references. If you're interested in learning about event-sourcing from scratch (esp. in #Java), check out my Ted talk: ted.dev/talks/#even...)

Ismael will show how Event Sourcing can provide a cohesive, end-to-end programming model centred around workflows, where a small set of building blocks can enable auditable data, durable execution and reactive UIs by default. All with the simplicity of idiomatic Ruby 💎

> 75% of what you read about CQRS on social media tries to turn it into something bigger (multiple dbs, read replicas, event sourcing, etc) and they're wrong. It's simply saying "Instead of a User service, have a UserRead and UserWrite service".

🥶 The Main Event: Arctic Dominance After weeks of relatively mild conditions, the entire region is now under a strong northwesterly flow. This pattern is directly sourcing extremely cold air from the Arctic, giving us true Canadian winter weather.

I have half a mind to add a domain event based event sourcing extension to Ash.

At the very least, I have a hard time imagining rolling a JSON API by hand again.

I've spent the last two months just going ham with it to see what can be done and I think there's something to the premise.

One of the things I have started doing in event sourcing is to return any output from a projection as a structure of:

projection id {int}
projection version {int}
as of event number {int}
value

Then whenever this value is used you can perform a "is this still correct" test on it.

Next thing I want to try with Event Sourcing is projectors that trigger arbitrary code when they're "caught up" with their events.
Ex. a new "Report v2" projector to replace the current one. You set it to build from all events. When it's "done", it flips a feature flag to start showing in the UI

I tend to model fairly explicitly what causes me to write these relationships in the store (usually a side effect). In event sourcing speak, it's just another projection. On the other side, were one enforces security, is where I'd typically express the checks (openfga.dev/docs/getting...).
