One of the things that @mrjamesob.bsky.social keeps coming back to is his interest in those people in the 16-24 "NEET" numbers.

NEET being "not in education, employment or training" - basically people who, as far as we can tell, are not doing anything.

In recent years I’ve seen a lot of misinformation around heat pumps.

Marek Miara at Heat Pumps Watch tackles misinformation in his recent article and delivers a strong reminder: many of the common objections simply don’t hold up.

"But the reality is that we just don’t know"

Astonishing given how much public policy this leads to - we just have no data whatsoever.

Hey Dublin-acquainted friends, can anyone point me to a good music video filmed in Dublin in the 90s?

All I can think of is Something Happens "Hello" but IIRC that's just on Dollymount or something. (And may be '89 anyway)

Old Town is the high bar for me

"Who are the people you see working that make you think - I couldn't do that?"

In my case, the bin men.

Feck that is a hard job.

When you have suburbs named after real animals - dolphins barn, foxrock, leopardstown - why would you put Dublin zoo in a park named after a mythical animal?

I quite literally will never understand this take. I know that we always need *some* rental property available but the vast majority of people in Ireland want to own and we can't because of *drumroll please* landlords buying multiple properties to rent. Them leaving the market is what we want.

It is mind blowing that oil is still the heating source for more new builds in Ireland than any other source... we are not helping ourselves.

There are a few free things for kids - for example the Saturday morning football we do for the under 5s is free and the junior park run on the Sunday is also free. However these are run by volunteers and you only get volunteers where people are not *time* poor...and sadly that is a big factor.

I think the "pensioners" vs. "young people" division (current topic on @mrjamesob.bsky.social ) is an aspect of the "assets" vs. "income" schism in English society.

A problem seems to be that English pensioners can be incredibly asset rich but also income poor, and we don't have a way to rebalance.

My physio is very impressed with how well my flexibility has improved since the first time I saw him.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that this was because I had the good sense to wear looser fitting trousers this time.
