There are regulations and you do have to satisfy all local planning regulations but these are pretty lax when it comes to the environment.

That said, refurb is a lot lower embedded CO2 than rebuild - especially for the old stone cottages.

Today my daughter's preschool is holding a farewell assembly for one of her classmates whose mother has no choice but to self deport. The school is hoping it will be joyful in tone, so we might make this less upsetting for this 3 year old.

There's just no words for the uselessness of this cruelty.

Current conversation on @mrjamesob.bsky.social (and the rest of the UK press) is the declining fertility rate however when you drill down into the data (on the ONS data) what you find is most of that decline is due to a huge decline in teenage pregnancies.

It is more than just wealthy nations - the babies per woman rate has fallen everywhere and some surprising countries are below replacement rate.

It is great to see these "before" and "after" photos of the homes renovated under the derelict homes grants.

I would, of course, prefer more carbon friendly methods but it is still better than new build.
