An interesting book so far, with a poetry just below the waterline writing style. I like the idea that all words are IOUs*, which will eventually lose their meaning if not used.

"Borderlines" is a magnificent book. I have not read the others, so no doubt, another trip to Westport beckons.

It is a lovely book shop. I think I spent more than I planned to last time I was there.

The disconnect between the economy of Wall Street and that of Main Street is very stark. This top heavy distribution is toppling over.

Cape Verde are spectacularly close to qualifying for the World Cup. They are above Cameroon and only need a draw against Eswatini to qualify.

Cameroon 🇨🇲 (who I am sort of supporting) would go into a play off.

My favourite on this:
"Computability and Unsolvability" by Martin Davis was published in 1958. In 1973, Davis published a paper in Scientific American about a development in the field, which listed his book 1958 in the references.

Excellent book recommendations and also advice on choosing/installing heat pumps and hempcrete insulation - both of which I put into practice.

Also several hours of feeling giddy when Peter Hook followed me (I can only assume by accident).

China supplies 83% of global tungsten. Rising tungsten costs could add $3,000–$25,000 to oilfield drillbit prices.

US shale drillers face higher prices for tungsten as Chinese export controls have squeezed supply, threatening Trump's ambitions to boost American fossil fuel production.

Claude AI is like a pet cat - forever bringing me things I didn't ask for and which take quite a long time to clean up afterwards...

Wow - I have had hangovers more pleasant than that speech.

am I wrong, but I thought Mystery Hour was on Thursdays?

I think I agree with your assessment @mrjamesob.bsky.social - Kemi Badenoch is reading her own political obituary.

Why a pause after an indefinite article?

"Conference, we have a.........duty to young people"

In addition to the actual content, the cadence of Kemi Badenoch's speech is grating too - it reminds me of the old BBC Micro speech synthesiser application (or Stephen Hawking's for our younger viewers).
