Juric Confronts His Nephew Juric paced around in Lermesian’s bedchamber, huffing, looking around for nothing in particular. This was the furthest he’d been in the palace, now that Lermesian was an adult he had more say in where people could go. Zegothan objected, but ultimately his ‘advice’ was ignored and Juric was allowed free roam of the palace. Of course, escorted by Lermesian. He sniffed every corner, eyed every piece of old clothing his sister wore, her jackets, her shoes and her shirts. Lermesian stood in the middle of the room with a slightly confused and disturbed look. Juric was frantic, overwhelmed even, she was heavily permeating the air as if she was standing right with them. The wolves, Nora and Lash yipped and spun at Juric’s ankles as he walked around. Lermesian was getting impatient, the evening was upon them and he was tired of watching his uncle huff through his mother’s belongings. “What are you looking for?” He asked, finally, impatient. Juric slowed, holding Aereth’s handkerchief. He turned and looked at his young nephew, barely a man only seventeen moons. Not even old enough to understand his heritage. Himself. “I’m not looking for anything. Whatever was worth anything in this room is gone.” Juric growled. The wolves all lay obediently. “Why do you cater so much to your father’s family?” He asked. Lermesian’s face twisted into a mix of guilt and anger. “Why don’t you give your cousin Evaran any land? Or Sigge?” The room was silent, but the fire was loud in the hearth. “Your mother would’ve been proud but you-- “I don’t know my mother!” Lermesian snapped, “all I can remember is her voice and her eyes...and I would know more but you won’t tell me anything!” Juric paused and gripped the handkerchief. Lermesian was a small pup when his mother disappeared.... Juric Confronts His Nephew (cont) He took two large steps towards his nephew and stuffed Aereth’s handkerchief in the chest pocket of his suit. Lermesian kept still. “Your mother was forsaken by the gods and now the very people who called her the future of Vulsria, easily forgot her. And they’ll do the same to you.” he warned, brushing past the young emperor. He grabbed the door handle and slung it open with anger, surprising the guards on the other side. They both tensed when the large dark haired man stormed past and left everyone shocked. Lermesian kept running as fast as his legs could carry him. He weaved through the large trunks and slid beneath their giant raised roots. He didn’t care if his silk pants and shoes became ruined in the dirty leaves and moss. He could hear the men’s voices yelling behind him as he kept running, losing them in the forest. He was like the wind, his black braid like a serpent behind him, jumping over rocks and hurrying beneath the tall branches, dashing through the prickly bushes until the colorful forest began to camouflage him into nothing. The wolves on either side of him ran as a unit, silent and following with one mind. Lermesian did not know where he was going but his heart took him this way. Soon the voices behind him were gone and all he could hear were the howls of the wolves around him as they continued to rush through the deep woods. He just needed to escape, to get away from the demands and the questions. He was still trying to get through his college and prepare for his years of tactician school. Trying to get used to his married life and expectations. He wanted to make his parents proud and take care of the country who raised him. But what could he do but go to school and sit on his throne, swinging around his sword in training. He felt weak, he felt overwhelmed...he felt alone.
