Of the approximately 240,000 oil & gas wells in California only 17% are producing, while nearly 70,000 are idle. Gov. Newsom has issued 14,623 oil/gas permits per FracTracker Alliance and Consumer Watchdog.

I think I know the numbers better than fractracker. Great that they can read the headlines or other people's blogs. But they clearly misunderstand or are misrepresenting the IMF numbers.

Two months ago, @PSRColorado, @sierraclubco, and @fractracker dropped a bombshell report showing most companies violated rules requiring chemical disclosures for downhole operations since July 2023. Operators are finally submitting their chemical disclosures, albeit 100s of days late.

Fractracker doesn't understand the IMF estimates from which it gets that number. The IMF's estimates of federal subsidies to "the fossil fuel imdustry" are just $3 billion in 2022 (an undercount: Congress says they are $17 billion). The rest — $754 billion in 2022 — represents the IMF's estimate ...
