Hacked together a simple Swift app in a couple hours that shows my upcoming @WeWork bookings, powered entirely by the CLI I posted previously (golang core, compiled and linked as Framework)

Does anyone want this? Would Apple even allow it in the AppStore as "XXX for Wework"? 🤔

This is my first time earnestly looking at Golang and wowowow it's so easy and fast. I think the current implementation of generics leaves a lot to be desired especially when compared to trait/protocol based inheritance in Rust/Swift, but for making a straightforward web server, this is fantastic.

To Apple: adding more and more "features" to Swift every year, does not make the language easier and simpler but more complex and more difficult to grasp. There is so much value to #golang simplicity and easiness but unfortunately, "Complexity sells"...

Eh, kind of. Golang is a unique choice, since it’s one of the only performant compile-to-binary languages with garbage collection (other than swift at least). I was looking to build some native desktop tooling, so that fits the bill perfectly. Rust felt a step too complex

My biggest complaint with Go, for being mostly so easy to figure out, some design choices are very, very odd:

Rust:
let mut m: HashMap<String, String> = HashMap::new();

Javascript:
let m: Map<string, string> = new Map()

Swift:
var m: [String: String] = [:]

Golang:
map := make(map[string]string)
