oh Sarah i feel you- i so appreciate your honesty, & i'm sure your patients do too. It is really sad. Was having similar conversation with our palliative care team in the hospital - how upsetting it is for them to visit wards & see an absence of basic care. Hard to be holsitic in that context. bw

Regardless of the outcome at this point, I really hope this outcome ends the idea that Trump's first term was some sort of fluke, that we as a country are 'better than that.' Naive, see-no-evil ass position that self-sabotages the work of building an holsitic alternative vision for the country.

I didn't MEAN for things to go this way but hopefully the less aggressive algorithm/fewer chuds drawn to internet conflict means I can actually be more holsitic now.

Umbrella Academy or Dirk Gently's Holsitic Detective Agency. Both are very weird but very fun shows! Umbrella Academy just wrapped up but Dirk Gently's got cancelled after the second season :(

It also ignores that the other pillars of social, exploration, downtime etc. Still need to play a large role in the holsitic experience and let it influence what happens in combat, otherwise you really are just playing a wargame with improvised storytelling between scenarios.

Are you just looking for a RAW solution, or a quick-fix at-table house rule? Is it a direct complaint to Paizo because you think it's serious enough to warrant as a holsitic issue for all tables? Is this an appeal to the community demanding a more comprehensive homebrew solution?

Like say what you want about the holsitic system, but that alone is actually amazing design. It teaches players about the core mechanics and design philosophies of bypassing enemy defenses, while making each thematically distinct at that ludonarrative level.

And that too would be fine if those same people didn't go around acting like they've grokked out the game's meta, while simultaneously ignoring *if not outright resenting* those holsitic contextual elements for 'bloating' the game or adding 'pointless minutia' to it

And that's fine in a vacuum as a preference, but apart from the fact that other options exist for that if that's your preference (hint: it's called a sorcerer. Or kineticist, if you hate traditional casting that much), it shows a disengagement with that holsitic experience.

But the contextuality of that extra effect is both a great little ribbon as a tactical element, and creates those moments of ludonarrative investment that make the game feel like it's part of a holsitic experience, not just a sterile wargame in a vacuum.
