oh i like this way more

slow-burn horror from nihilistic japenese directors (part. kiyoshi kurosawa)

korean horror that incorporates elements of both history and folklore

women punishing men for being pieces of shit, especially if it incorporates elements of (greek) mythology
I don't care about horror hot takes. Tell me what you love. That's the shit I jive with. 🤷‍♀️

#NowWatching: ONIBABA (1964)

A Japenese horror film directed by Kaneto Shindō, cited by William Friedkin (director of The Exorcist) as one of the most terrifying films he'd ever seen.

The decision to lean HARD into the japanese-horror aspect instead of blending american and japenese (which is what the series is known for) is such a bold risk. I don't know if f is going to *feel* like a Silent Hill game, but I really dig the direction to break the mold.

Yesterday's #nfotd was #Jigoku aka #TheSinnersOfHell by Nobuo Nakagawa. 1960. Watched on Criterion Ch. Japenese horror. I can't say it was scary but it was disturbing AF. I will steal its use of color for some upcoming job. I notice a lot of sadness permeates early Japanese horrors.
The Sinners of Hell (1960) ⭐ 6.8 | Crime, Drama, Horror
