Soursalt is a webseries where the horror of the body’s distortion is swinging through in a constant uproar, an active force that demands you listen to it on its own terms. In Soursalt, there is a metaphysical force that infects people who watch the titular Youtube channel, a rot. When one watches Soursalt, in-universe, the rot nests inside their eyes and turns them into metaphorical windows for all the monsters to look through. Eventually, that rot corrupts people into monsters known as Windowers, or causes them to die at the hands of a Windower. Every monster you see in Soursalt was a human once, now mutilated in frightening ways — a longlimbed homunculus with a paper mask on its face known as the Astobisu, the bag-headed larger-than-life June of Candles. Above them all is the incarnated rot deity of dreams fueled by the spread of Soursalt’s viewership, a being known as Madman Re. It’s Madman Re’s influence that infiltrates the main protagonist, Aidan Calloway, when he goes into haunted woods with his best friend.

These stories always bring to mind the father of Major Major Major Major in Catch-22:
Major Major's father was a sober God-fearing man whose idea of a good joke was to lie about his age. He was a longlimbed farmer, a God-fearing, freedom-loving, law-abiding rugged individualist who held that federal aid to anyone but farmers was creeping socialism. He advocated thrift and hard work and disapproved of loose women who turned him down. His specialty was alfalfa, and he made a good thing out of not growing any. The government paid him well for every bushel of alfalfa he did not grow. The more alfalfa he did not grow, the more money the government gave him, and he spent every penny he didn't earn on new land to increase the amount of alfalfa he did not produce.
