So a piece came out recently claiming that Ducati faces its most complicated #MotoGP contract negotiation with Marc Marquez for the 2027 season. It was a great piece. But the negotiation won't be complicated at all. Marquez will stay with Ducati. Here's why:

The dirty secret much of the software industry doesn't want you to know is that if you build a healthy team with a healthy culture, they learn, grow, train new members, and you don't need to buy ten new tools to "supercharge development".

But they can't sell you that, so…

More people should have a fire extinguisher at home. Especially if they have hobbies that might increase the risk of a fire. They start at about £20, and if you need one of the more expensive ones, they're only £70ish. Buy a bloody fire extinguisher.

Next time you're watching a video of someone talking to the camera in selfie mode, watch their eyes and see if they're really looking at the camera or looking at themselves on the screen the whole time checking out if they look good. Adjust your judgement of them on this basis.

GPU farms are such a fascinating type of data center cause they have a lot of things they're really useful for in little bursts at a time, but solving computationally demanding science problems isn't exciting enough for techbros so they keep trying to find an infinite money algorithm to run instead

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

This is why it is important to call Farage and Reform what they are: racists. Force people to make an explicit choice for what they know is a shameful ideology.
Reform source: "And if he apologised, he would be turning to his own support base and saying, ‘You’re all guilty too.’ ”

Nigel Farage seems to think that everybody his age - or who supports Reform - behaved very similarly to how he did at school

Thread on how to detect ai in that viral dog video
Yeah, I mean, I'm critical of any video nowadays that is trying to elicit an emotional response, especially when it's asking for subs at the end. It's weird that all the people seem to end up with the dog they want. And shelters are overflowing, where are the rooms full of people wanting to adopt?

Seagulls don't do themselves any favours with the screeching. Imagine how different our opinion of them would be if they all warbled like wrens or robins while they tried to steal chips off each other.

The best book on this concept is @naomikritzer.bsky.social's Liberty's Daughter about seasteading. Brilliantly exposes the gap in all these projects, the people who do the actual work of keeping the place running: cooking, cleaning, sewage, repairs. The libertarian techbros don't see them as people.

Mark Steel's In Town is such a funny and warm show, but this episode is particularly good. I have a fondness for the Shetland accent since the first time I heard it, when Marjolein Robertson was on Breaking The News

BBC Audio | Mark Steel's in Town | Series 14 | 5. Lerwick (Shetland part 1)
Mark discovers how life in Lerwick is shaped by sea, storms and Shetland spirit.

On why Farage doesn’t apologise for his schoolboy racism:
“if he apologised, he would be turning to his own support base and saying, ‘You’re all guilty too.’ ”
Exactly.
He is racist. So are his voters. He can’t be pissing them off by saying sorry.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.
