Had a very good time talking about stomach aches, pain, and conservatism at #nacbs in Montreal while also representing @mbsbirmingham.bsky.social

One of the many great things I got out of last week’s trip to Montréal for the NACBS was a copy of @sarahcrook.bsky.social’s new book. I can’t wait to get stuck into this!

Absolutely! Great to see your paper at NACBS, Ruth. Hope to see you at the IHR soon.

It was a joy to meet with researchers from across the world. I also loved my panel’s intervention at NACBS: an ethical discussion of #BlackBritishHistory by eight Black/ mixed-race early career researchers. A visual reminder that Black people are the makers of history, and not simply its subjects.

It has been a wonderful experience being in Montréal this past week for the NACBS conference. I have enjoyed my first time in Canada, from the Basilique de Notre Dame, the Bon Secours Chapel, Marguerite Bourgeoys Museum, to the Pointe a Carille, Musée des Hospitalières, 1/

#NACBS at Montreal has been wonderful. I presented here for the first time. Really useful feedback and stimulating panels across the entire program. The presidential address on J.S. Mill's 'family life' was a real treat. Looking forward to coming back to it again.

Final few hours in beautiful Montreal for #NACBS 2025. It has been a wonderful opportunity to catch up with so many @boydellandbrewer.bsky.social authors and meet new scholars. To any delegates still here, I’m giving away ALL display copies by 1pm today!

3/3 Quiet highlight: a commissioning editor invited me to develop a book proposal based on the dissertation. With my defence on Dec 17, it feels like this very long project is finally starting to turn a corner into whatever comes next. #skystorians #phdlife #conference #digitalhumanities

Brilliant morning at #NACBS thinking about singleness in 19th-century England and Ireland. I spoke on unmarried sisters, the spinster aunt, and finding space in the family for renegotiating relationships.

This panel looks fab.
I wonder why there's no equivalent of NACBS in the UK, mega conference of the newest British history.
I guess that Brum and Warwick are trying to do so, but there's nothing that comprehensive.
Next up at #nacbs2025 is a fab lineup of rising history stars in field of histories of activism in late 20th century Britain incl: @racheljcollett.bsky.social @alfiesteer.bsky.social Dan Frost & Jess White.

Are you referring to the #NACBS?

If it's any consolation—it won't be—I'm IN Montréal. A 20 minute walk from the venue. And in the same boat as you 😞

Not a prof, just a former History Maj. I couldn't go even if I wanted to. My point: I see you, I feel you, I'm sorry. #LongCOVID #MECFS
Day 1072—Why does ME/CFS score so low in quality of life? Because it stunts one's ability to perform daily activities. You can't function. You can't attend functions. Try as you might to carefully pace, PEM crashes are inevitable—and severe. So you remain. Alive but not living; barely even here.
