Did you know that the Trump administration’s DEI ban threatens decades of HIV research, funding, and access to care?

Even the CDC no longer provides resources for NBHAAD because of this administration’s policies.

This is not just an attack on diversity—it’s an attack on Black health. (2/3)

HIV justice is racial justice! 🗣️

Today is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD), a day to recognize how HIV disproportionately impacts Black communities—AND to act against the barriers to health equity. (1/3)

Black Americans are 12% of the US but 38% of new HIV cases, with 47% in Black MSM aged 13-34. Disparity isn't destiny. This #NBHAAD, we call for better testing, prevention, and NIH research to end stigma. ✊🏾🩺

HIV prevention (like PrEP before exposure to HIV & PEP within 72 hours after exposure) & treatment are effective. People with HIV can live long, healthy lives. If the viral load becomes undetectable from treatment, you won’t transmit HIV via sex. https://owntheawk.org/learn/safer-sex/ #NBHAAD

Black Americans are 3x as likely as the general U.S. population to be diagnosed with HIV. That's unacceptable.

Our members are committed to ensuring federal HIV prevention, care, and research programs remain funded and do not leave Black Americans behind. #NBHAAD

This Black History Month, we honor Phill Wilson, amfAR Trustee and lifelong activist whose leadership helped change the course of the HIV epidemic. His story is proof that research and advocacy save lives—and serves as a reminder that the fight for health equity is not over. #NBHAAD

Under Trump/MAGA control, our federal government no longer acknowledges #NBHAAD. We’re observing this day under protest because we refuse to let it be erased in pursuit of a white supremacist agenda that denies Black history and devalues Black lives. It is still National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

HIV criminalization isn’t about public health—it’s about policing, surveillance, and punishment. Black communities are targeted at every turn. Abolition is not abstract for us. It’s necessary. This report names why. Thanks @williamsinstitute.bsky.social for this research. #Abolition #NBHAAD

This #NBHAAD, ANEA and TAG uplift the truth: Black people are disproportionately impacted by HIV, and equity-driven solutions are essential. Ending the epidemic requires confronting racism, expanding access, and ensuring that Black communities are centered, visible, and supported.
