Schrodey used to come and shout at me to stop the rain.

He also used to go out through the cat flap in the back door, encounter the rain, come back inside, then zip out through the front door when I was leaving for work and seem shocked that it was raining out there too.

And the most dangerous "kill" Schrodey ever brought in was one of those big sponges that people use to wash their car.

Thing is, Schrodey would've been like "I understand you don't want me to do this but this is what I'm going to do. Make your peace with it." whereas Bean would desperately love to do as you ask, he just can't quite figure out what you're asking sometimes.

Schrodey had this thing where he'd jump onto the end of the bed & instead of walking up the unoccupied side to where my head is, he'd walk up my leg, balancing carefully either side of my shin.

Bean has never done this. But he apparently decided that the day I fucked my knee up is the day to start.

Oh my god, I was going back through my photos and I found the time when I was trying to take a photo of a little flash drive (I forget why) and Schrodey just wasn't having it.

So despite many years of Schrodey proving that cat furniture is a waste of money and me fighting the urge, I finally caved and got Beanie a cat tree.

I mean, it was just one taxi ride and one former vet. Maybe he was getting sued more because he had fewer successful surgeries.

But he gave me a lot of really sound advice that helped me care for Schrodey in his final months and it sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

Last year I took Schrodey to a vets appointment, and in the taxi on the way home the driver gave me loads of really good advice.

And it turned out he was a vet surgeon who had quit *because* of the price-gouging that was going on in the industry.

For 17 years I marked the start of spring as the first day when Schrodey came over from the window and his black bits were warm from the sun.

This is the first year I haven't had him with me to tell me when the official start of spring is.

When me and Bean came to stay with mum I wasn't sure how well he'd adjust because for the vast majority of his life it's just been me, him and Schrodey, and since I was too anxious to have people over to visit he tended to be wary of anyone besides me and the people next door.

(Obviously I was looking for pictures of Schrodey when I noticed them. But I had sort of forgotten just how teeny they were compared to how they are now.)

I find myself missing Schrodey especially this week, because he was always an absolute menace when it came to christmas.
