🌱 Moon Cactus
One day, partner brought home a smol🌵, he called a Moon Cactus 🌕.
(Partner spends freetime peeping plants at nurseries; I will grab something from Trader Joe's). 🌕🌵 thrive on indirect sunlight, kind of like me👵. This one seems to be 💗 as new growth has appeared.

🌱 I think I forgot to share that my Selenicereus grandiflorus produced a fruit. Mildly sweet and refreshing, like dragon fruit. Those spines are something, though. 😬

Looks a lot like the flower of a Dragon Fruit Plant (Selenicereus undatus) that only blooms once and only at night.... and usually around a full moon

Saturday's Sunrise & Selenicereus Undata - Dragon Fruit Bloom

Dragon fruit plants (Selenicereus) are lax, clambering plants. They are not stiff, upright plants such as Saguaros. Selenicereus needs something to flop upon or it needs some tying/staking help to get it and keep it going upright.

A Selenicereus species. Might be S. undatus (Dragon fruit), S. setaceus, S. triangularis, or S. grandiflorus. Where exactly did you photograph it? Did you get better a shot of the foliage? Yes, a cactus.

*apologies because the alt text for the first two images should say Selenicereus grandiflorus & I copy-pasted the wrong text in a very unhelpful moment of brain fog

Selenicereus grandiflorus has spines/looks more “cactus-y” & the outer petals are a dark orange. Epiphyllum oxypetalum’s blooms are mostly white (outer petals have a tint), it has no spines, and looks less cactus-y. It’s also the one you’ll usually see in someone’s house. Reference pics:

Hey babes! It’s a gorgeous timelapse, but Insta Science is spreading misinformation.

Certain rarer flowering cacti like Selenicereus grandiflorus—also commonly called Queen of the Night—bloom more rarely, but Epiphyllum oxypetalum blooms often & is easily cultivated as a house plant. :)
The Queen of Night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) blooms just once a year at night and only for a few hours.
