Print ad dating from 1905, plugging the London Corset Company's new Parisian-made corset style, "La Samothrace". The illustration depicts a beautiful, fashionable Edwardian woman (with Gibson Girl pompadour), showing off her new corset to an admiring friend, who is dressed in chic 1905 daytime fashion while leaning casually against a table. The corset-wearer holds the laces of her corset in her hands, apparently about to tie them around her waist (which was, and is, frequent practice when putting on a corset). The corset has luxurious lace and ribbon trimming around the top, and is worn with a chemise underneath, also abundantly trimmed in lace. The corset has long, oversized garter straps (suspenders) attached to the bottom, which appear to be worn over the woman's drawers, holding up her black silk stockings. A strategically placed mirror shows a back view of the corset, displaying its lacings. The woman also wears a "dog collar" style pearl choker, fashionable in the period, along with bracelets and pearl necklace, as well as low-heeled pumps of some light color. The dress she's going to wear is laid casually over a chair at the right of the picture. The corset is billed at 3 pounds, 13 shillings, 6 pence in 1905 prices, which according to one online currency converter (others may yield different results) is equivalent to some $370 US dollars as of 2015, not IMO an excessive price for a very fancy, imported, handmade garment.
