One thing that shows up in almost all of Trump's polling - approval ratings, this stuff - is that the STRONG opposition is nearly twice the size of the STRONG support. Half or more of Trump's support are people saying they "somewhat" approve or he "probably" has not done anything improperly.

“Asshole with a thin leftist veneer” is what a substantial number of people want, because they don’t actually want to make the world better, they want to feel they’re part of a club and that their resentment of life and desire for someone to tell them how to think is justified.

In the alternate-history novel by Eric Flint and David Weber, "1634: The Baltic War", one of the characters says pretty much the same thing; people who are cruel to animals in childhood tend to be cruel to humans in adulthood.

Hasan Piker is a piece of shit (not news) but using a shock collar on the highest setting (they're for alerting your dog, it should never get a pain/fear response) because it sets one paw outside of its teeny tiny dog bed as it tries to stretch while on multi-hour streams? Pure asshole behavior.

Leo questioned a world where the wealth of the elite grows "exponentially" while many "millions of people die of hunger or survive in conditions unfit for human beings." He also criticized "ideologies that defend the absolute autonomy of the marketplace and financial speculation," with false promises "that a free-market economy will automatically solve the problem of poverty." Leo described a "new tyranny," which shuns any kind of oversight and where the economy is structured "in such a way that sacrifices are demanded of the masses in order to serve the needs of the powerful." The poor, he wrote, are only allowed "drops that trickle down." The pope openly challenged "prosperity theology" and called Christians to the practice of giving charity. "It will not solve the problem of world poverty, yet it must still be carried out, with intelligence, diligence and social responsibility," he wrote. Popular movements that challenge "the empire of money," invite people to take on the cause to combat poverty alongside the poor, instead of on their behalf, and "make history," the pope said. It our duty, Leo said, to "make their voices heard, albeit in different ways, in order to point out and denounce such structural issues, even at the cost of appearing foolish or naïve."

The clues were there from the moment the Pope announced his regnal name, which is a direct homage to Leo XIII, who laid the foundations of the modern tradition of Catholic theology concerning social justice in his legendary encyclical _Rerum novarum_ (1891).

As I posted earlier this morning, yes. Their gambit is falling apart as the public is becoming increasingly aware what's really going on, so they're spinning like an out-of-control gyroscope. As I also said; Democratic focusing on health care now seems to not have been such a mistake after all.
