The Latin is a reference to the Emperor Constantine who supposedly saw the phrase “in hoc signo vinces” in the sky before he went to war, before a Christian cross. At that point Rome was still a pantheonic religion, but he put the Chi Ro on his soldier’s shields which was said to bring him victory

Goal is to be as neat as Cranmer (or Cranmer’s clerk.)

Prayer books in the Middle Ages & early modern period were used by people over generations. Personal objects, they are commonly the site where ppl left notes about important events, as here, in a late 15th- or early 16thC hand which wrote in the November calendar page , "My Moder departed to God."
The bottom half of a calendar page. The main text is written in an early 15th-century formal book hand. In a more casual script are inserted the words I wrote in my post. The manuscript is Cambridge UL MS Ee 1.14
