You can't explain this with EV policy alone. Indeed, were it not for EV sales, the chart would look even worse.

Latest paper from our upcoming Progressive Review issue.

An essential read by @jilliananable.bsky.social on our failing approach to transport decarbonisation, the scale of the challenge we face in the second half of the decade and where to focus efforts to achieve the UK's 2030 climate target👇

I'm upbeat about EV sales. But... The average car is now older (by about 16%) than in 2019. There are 33 million cars in the fleet and WHEN we are selling 100% as EVs IF we carry on with current sales, that would replace 2 million a year. Ok, new cars drive more miles but there are 2 trends to watch

👉New blog from Prof @gregmarsden-leeds.bsky.social: to hit net zero, we need to rethink transport. That means reducing demand, working with communities & designing systems that improve everyday lives, not just switching fuels.

📉 Transport emissions are off track. In a new report, Prof @gregmarsden-leeds.bsky.social breaks down the Spending Review, showing why current plans fall short of the CCC’s 2042 net zero goals, and why travel demand reduction must be part of the solution: tinyurl.com/3wanehnp

Lol. British train announcements... "We are going to be experiencing a different train in York to carry on your journey to Scarborough". Marginally better than being 'detrained' as I once was... Nonsense. Just say it as it is.

1. I need to read!
2. The car has provided huge benefits
3. There is at least a third of the population that really love cars/driving
4. Is this individual well being claims? The debate is about net impacts of car dependency for society
5. Is it owning a car or using a car which matters?

Seems like government keener on investing to meet it's baseline traffic growth assumptions than on the commitments it has to make for its climate goals.

Finds significant traffic reductions but “heterogeneity across time, federal states, and road types.”

Good response from @infuzeleeds.bsky.social to the call for ideas on the integrated national transport strategy.

“… what truly matters to people is whether transport enables them to live according to their values and principles…”

But, the current transport system rarely aligns with these values.
