all in all, this is bad for Europe (and bad for Ukraine, as France has been one of the key powers to push more help for Ukraine in EU agenda). If France is incapacitated, EU is also at least partly incapacitated... 3/3

Is the worrisome point. If elections are next, then it is pretty clear that NR will be top contender for PM position (or there will be a hung parliament again). Hard to see how Macron can rule, or get through gangantuan saving program that is demanded by the EU and the lenders 2/n

France is in a Crisis. and this:

"Polling consistently puts the National Rally way ahead of other political parties with around 33 to 34 percent of the vote in a possible legislative election. Macron’s party is trailing third, with half that voting share. Leftist candidates are polling second." 1/n

Eduskunnan suuri valiokunta päätti perjantaina vastustaa Tanskan kompromissia CSAM-asetukseksi. Lapsiin kohdistuvaa seksuaalista väkivaltaa tulee torjua verkossa toimivasti ja tehokkaasti, mutta heikosti kohdennettu yksityisyydensuojan murtaminen ei kuulu demokratiaan.

And, like I have said before, it does not mean that everyone need to turn to vegan/vegetarian. Limiting (red) meat would be a start for individuals. Offering vegetarian food in climate/environment meetings would be another. Make these the norm, and then let's take next steps. 2/2

Meat is not only blind spot,it is the stuff from which culture wars start. Many think that if we take away traditional food of a culture, then it will start diminishing it. Cultures (and food we eat) has changed forever, so we should embrace change, and us scientists should lead by example 1/2

Meat is a blind spot for people who care about climate. When I used to have dinner with my colleague Wally Broecker, the climate scientist who coined the term “global warming”, he would always order a steak.

Sometimes I think about how from 1935-1975ish, Bell Labs produced an insane amount of revolutionary science and technology, including 11 Nobel Prizes, the transistor, UNIX, C, the laser, the solar cell, information theory, etc. The secret? Provide scientists with ample, steady, no-strings funding.

Another populist in Europe comes out on top and the Eastern Europe seems to be slowly turning towards China (and Russia)...

Looks like populist billionaire Andrej Babis will come out on top in Czech election

Known to be much friendlier to China than current government. Will this see an extension of Beijing’s "silk curtain" running through Budapest, Belgrade, Bratislava?
Populist billionaire Babis on track to win Czech election
A victory would raise the prospect of a government that would boost Europe's anti-immigration camp and reduce support for Ukraine.

And it _does not_ mean that everyone needs to go vegan/vegetarian. It just means that we need to reduce the use of animal products (esp. red meat but also other animal products), and eat more whole grains, legumes, fruit, vegetables, and nuts. Doesn't sound that bad, or revolutionary change...

We are breaching planetary boundaries, and much of it is connected to food and how we produce food. And it would be good for individual health, too!

"The planetary health diet, ... could halve the food sector’s greenhouse gas emissions and prevent up to 15 million deaths annually."

Five of the seven breached planetary boundaries are linked to food systems. By transforming production and adopting a “planetary health diet,” we can halve food-related climate emissions and prevent m...

Minä näen että on ihan turha rakentaa vastakkainasettelua maaseutu-kaupunki akselille. Iso osa työpaikoista ja palveluista keskittyy kaupunkeihin, suurin osa luonnonvaroista ja ruuasta tuotetaan muualla, osa haluaa asua maalla osa kaupungissa, molempia tarvitaan. 1/n

"When asked about a patent for the vaccine, he said there was none. “Could you patent the sun?” he asked. His statement set a standard for altruism." There would be a lot of need for this kind of thinking in today's world too!

In a promotion designed for BookTok enjoyment, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s just-published THE PRIMAL OF BLOOD AND BONE is available in a special, limited-edition "garlic-scented copy, infused with Hellmann’s Garlic Aioli to create a one-of-a-kind, Craven-proof book." They explain: "This exclusive edition is printed with garlic-infused ink, designed to ward off Armentrout’s bloodthirsty monsters, the Craven. While humans may dread garlic breath, Hellmann’s has cleverly transformed this social faux pas into an unexpected – and delicious – form of supernatural protection."

This is excellent reading for those don't know the US christian white movement that well (or been to states)... but it really is really weird, as anyone who has spent enough time in US can verify.

That's part of why I wrote this. It's important to understand that MAGA is not "real" America.

On the contrary, the reason they're all so fucking bitter is they know most people aren't like them. And they resent that.
