Both events will have live audience Q&As, but both will also be recorded for later viewing. Hope you can attend!
2) the next Sunnyvale Sustainability Speaker Series event is Monday October 27, on disability rights and climate justice. Register here: www.eventbrite.com/e/united-for... Look for the rest of the series for this next year to be announced shortly, as soon as we confirm dates!
1) this year’s Ramanathan Climate Conversation is happening *tomorrow* afternoon, at SIO and online everywhere! www.nationalacademies.org/event/45367_.... Topic is air pollution in India. Will you see me in the room? Probably not but that’s because the panelists/moderator are all pretty great!

Hey all! How’s everyone’s apocalypse going? (sigh) Just dropping in to share a couple of events coming up that may be of interest:
Firings are happening right now at the National Science Foundation. Essential staff are being cut.
This isn’t about the budget. If it was, they’d be going after the military (17%) or state appropriations (38%). NSF is 0.7% of the federal budget. All federal employees make up only 4% of the budget.

Happening tonight! Or register for the link to the recording!
And yes, I will also be at one of the anti-fascism (et al) protests on Saturday, because we can care about more than one thing at once.
This continues my campaign to convince people around here to care about the oceans and climate :) The past events from this and past years (including some moderated by yours truly) are also all available on youtube! www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Hey y’all. Everything continues to be a mess and I can’t really look at the news. But in the interest of local action making us feel less hopeless, maybe people are interested in our next Sustainability Speaker Series webinar about preventing pollution runoff? www.eventbrite.com/e/cleaner-st...

Our schedule is almost full 🎉, but we could still use US-based meteorologists and climate scientists to speak in the overnight period on late Friday/early Saturday and late Saturday/early Sunday. If you're a night owl, or living in Alaska or Hawaii, we'd love to have you! wclivestream.com/speakers/

Happening tonight!
They can’t possibly take all of us, though. I don’t see how the math works out.
Also, I don’t particularly *want* to let them win, uproot everything to flee in the night, esp when others can’t. But also I know enough about S.Am. history in the 1970s to have gone through the thought experiment.

(Also, if you register you’ll get the recording after, if that’s more your speed!)
The topic is likely no surprise to anyone working in equity/justice for a minute, or who knows the general history of environmentalism. Now more than ever we need more connections to nature (and to each other) and more allies in this type of work. I hope it’ll be a good convo.
Ha ha so the world continues nay increases to be a fascist dumpsterfire, but regardless I am looking forward to our next Sunnyvale Sustainability Speaker Series event this Weds, discussing work to ensure equity in access to our coastal (+other outdoor) spaces www.eventbrite.com/e/waves-of-c...
Waves of Change: Ensuring Equity in Coastal Access
Join a Sustainability Speaker Series event! Seraph White discusses supporting equitable access to the California coast.

People might think that whatever destruction is done to science in the US, we can undo in 4 years with a Democratic president and Congress.
The problem is that many areas require specialized knowledge and skills built up over years, and once that's lost, it's hard to get back.

He hears “minerals” and he thinks “ooh, minerals are diamonds. diamonds are like gold. I like gold. I want the diamonds too. I want your minerals gimme the minerals”?
Is my theory anyway.

We have an Ioniq 6 and love it! We can make it from the Bay Area to SoCal with 1 charge if you‘re real careful about it (2 stops and it‘s extremely comfortable margins/or if going up a mountain).
I think @agu.org has (or will have) positions on this too, if you’re not already in contact blogs.agu.org/fromtheprow/...

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too.
EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them.

She has a third one out now too! (Sheine Lende, which is a prequel to Elatsoe)
YAY personally I’ve become kind of obsessed with ocean-based climate resiliency so this one kind of works out for both of us :)
The world is a fascist dumpsterfire right now, but in an effort to minimize my spiraling by focusing more local, please join us at tonight’s Sunnyvale Sustainability Speaker Series event, with @christinatoms.bsky.social, for a discussion about wetland restoration www.eventbrite.com/e/restoring-...

I taught myself when we adopted a cat who decided to chew holes into any socks she found… :\
The Sustainability Commission will be discussing it next week so at least now I have time to practice articulating why I think I am right :)
Ofc then Council has to rank it highly enough (ah, local government) but I’m trying to focus on the work I can *stares in terror at federal gov, shuts laptop*

(I purposely left it SUPER broad too; use sustainable materials, talk about whales, have local energy storage, whatevs. Just show you’ve spent 9 seconds thinking about sustainability.)
Anyway I’m happy the world is Baader-Meinhofing me today by giving me a lot of cool examples to the contrary!

I… just last night listened to my city’s Art Commission shut down my proposed idea that city-funded art should address the city’s stated sustainability goals in some way, because apparently putting any guidelines whatsoever around art would be “restricting creativity.” 🤨
And I hope we don’t have to go through the same story here, because we know that one already.
I really hope enough people make the right decision today, am terrified of the alternative, and think I need to be offline for a bit. Focusing on work will be super easy today, eh!
La alegría …ya viene?
