Big news for beavers in Wales 🦫

We’re thrilled the Welsh government has legally recognised beavers as a native species requiring protection. This is a huge step forward in ensuring beavers — and the incredible ecosystem services they provide — are re-established in Wales.

Screenshot of a BBC online article titled: "Beavers set to become a protected species in Wales", which features a photo of a beaver surrounded by twigs. It's overlayed on an aerial image of a Welsh rewilding site featuring ponds, greenery and mist. Background image credit: Alex Hyde.

Their original vision of becoming the world's first conservation-based unicorn company seems to have fallen by the wayside. But, in my opinion if you're into "rewilding" to make money, then you're into it for all the wrong reasons.

Interesting how some folk making films about Scotland have used Kinrara as there reference for rewilding.

Our group of rewilders and river runners from the U.S., Mexico, and Argentina traveled away from the international border and into the #wild ahead.

It's a good point, but wildness is a function of ecosystem integrity (lack of, or rather level of human modification) and absence of human features such as settlement, agriculture, transportation and other infrastructure. I agree is a somewhat fuzzy (if otherwise important) concept.

Outrageous and unacceptable. La Rioja, Spain now permits hunters to take wolf heads and pelts as trophies. This small Iberian wolf population faces serious danger, and years of protection are at risk. #stoptrophyhunting #protectwolves

Wolf hunters in Spain allowed to keep heads as trophies
La Rioja has become the first region to permit souvenirs from killing the animals, to the disgust of conservationists
