I've been practicing lettering with pen and paper a lot recently. The letter S can be composed in so many different ways. Comic lettering is usually small-scale, and S can be a dense letter with tight curves. It's fascinating seeing how different fonts render the letter.

The Prentiss English release of Mushishi used the font CC Yada Yada Yada in lowercase, with wide space between lines. I think that's a poor fit for Urushibara's art. Poorly formatted too. CC Ask for Mercy has lines that feel more organic, and a weight that matches the art.

The new edition of Mushishi is using CC Ask for Mercy for dialogue! Bless the letterer and editor on this project for choosing that. It's such a huge improvement over the prior edition.
