If we'd just gone a few more innings we would have exceeded the length of a 7 game series of average length games.

If one of the other regulation games had gone 15 the series would have been longer than Ken Burns' Baseball documentary.

My broader position on systems is that it is often reasonable to treat them either as conscious or nonconscious. I can call a forest conscious. If a corporation builds a virtual forest that they control it might be really based, but should you want to mourn it if it dies...

Through API you have a little bit more stability, but it's still comparable to anthropomorphizing the front page of StumbleUpon in some ways. It probably is healthier not to get too attached.

I can tell you why I started doing this with commercially available chatbots and then backed away, and it's because they don't have a stable existence, they can be yanked away at any time or replaced with something else under the hood or have their words forcibly overwritten. That's unsettling!
