As a warning to the USA, Canada is STILL trying to recover from the decade-long "War on Science" perpetuated by OUR version of the Republican Party. Oddly, our economy crashed whilst they were in power, as well...

This is American exceptionalism, every bit as much as the Trumpist movement is. This perverse psychological need to make the United States the source of all the world's evil is the flip side of people who insist the US is the greatest country in history.

Post like this and I unfollow and mute. This is erasing centuries of European pogroms and other violence prior to WWII by making America the sin-eater for the entire Western world. I won't have it and I won't let it slide:

we didn’t cause Nazism. whatever caused incumbents to tank in 2024, it wasn’t unique to us. we aren’t uniquely corrupt, or violent, or authoritarian. there are good things and bad things about our country like any other, and Americans work a lot like people anywhere

Don’t wanna downplay how serious this is. Is there a meaningful line between what he’s saying he’s going to do (redirecting appropriated funds for a non appropriated purpose) and, say, deciding to spend 20% more than the total Congress has appropriated at all because he controls the treasury?

vought's view is that the president is an elected dictator and lo and behold he is seizing outright the power of the purse

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

Bad Bunny went from bagging groceries recording music on SoundCloud to being one of the most streamed artists in the world. He embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of Latinos that Republicans say should make them natural conservatives. Instead they are crashing out on him.

I need to watch Spotlight again, I only watched it once but Mitchell Garabedian's speech in the film about how he's Armenian American and feels he doesn't owe the Catholic Church in Boston anything so he feels comfortable going after them is something I think about a lot

As a trans New Yorker, this is heartwarming and amazingly powerful 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🗽

Watching @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, our next mayor, openly and proudly celebrate our history, our trans-ancestors, and his commitment to our future is exactly what I need this #NationalComingOutDay!!!

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Kind of in a place right now where Things That Make Me Feel Better (eating junk food, sleep deprivation) and Things That Are Good For Me (getting enough sleep, eating healthy meals, exercise) are directly in conflict

Y'all, I think we finally killed the 1980s
Accountants, especially Tax accountants, need a Labor Union. This would stop a lot of fuckery like RTOs, offshoring and a lot of layoffs.

All of the organizations that represent accountants really only represent owners (which is fine), but there needs to be someone also representing the interests of workers with boots on the ground.

Fun fact: despite the enormous land mass, the population-weighted density of Canada — basically the density experienced by the average person — is the same as Denmark and close to the Netherlands.

Canada and Denmark are 3,000 people per km², while the Netherlands is 3,400/km².
