The morning light catches on thousands of strands woven between branches. Each thinner than hair and clearer than crystal. They turn the air in front of you into an oil-slick as every colour takes its turn. It has been a haunting walk through a long dark, and this sight is enough to reduce some of your companions to tears. You yourself feel a relief you did not recognise you needed. That there is still something beautiful to be found in this place.

Then the wind moves the web, the colours shift and you feel compelled to watch as they shape the faces of friends you thought long lost. They've just been waiting here for you. You can't believe you didn't realise. All this time you've been forcing yourself to keep going when all you needed to do was sit down and wait for your friends to embrace you.

Players must beat a presence check of dr14. Those that succeed are able to roll away from The Weaver's pincers at the last second. Those that fail take d6 damage. any who fail by more than 10 are immediately bound in webbing and must pass a dr15 strength check to break free.

These are so cool! Without the backing how flexible is the rubber? If I wanted to order a set without the backing so I could print onto curved objects (pottery) would that be possible?

NO TIMEWASTERS.”

The poster is freshly printed, plastered over three older
versions. The money offered increases with each version.

You speak to the sheriff, who explains that they’ve had several people claim to have killed Magritte only for the village to find she is alive and well. Tells you they hung the last person who lied to them about it.

Magritte can be found in the woods outside the village in a run-down farmhouse with her gang of thugs.

vengeance.

I think about mentorship a lot (in my own profession & the fields I study), & what strikes me about this thread is that is it focuses on *craft* separate from “how to make a living as an XYZ”

Which I think is a good thing.

My one quibble is about scale & expertise… (see below)

I am mentorship-pilled and I am social practice-pilled. I think it should be the responsibility of any artist who has “made it” in their respective fields/scenes to provide some sort of window into what makes them tick for the sake of benefitting those that are eager to learn.

The great excavation scars one side of the marsh. People with clothes caked in peat and filth pull chunks of it apart with their hands. One of them yells with delight and holds a tusk aloft. The tusk glows in the low light with carved runes. They rush away from the jealous stares of their compatriots to a small hut for weighing, and leave with a jangling pouch.

Players may try their hand at the peat-face. If they do, roll on the table below. On a 4-6 the others working the peat will try to rob the players when they sleep.

1 - A sodden three hours digging through mulch finds nothing. But the man working next to you says he knows a place where you can make some coin if you're not afraid to spill a little blood.
2 - One small fragment of tusk, with half a rune carved onto it. You nick yourself on a rock pulling it out, and the rune pulses red for a moment.
3 - The skull looks almost human if not for the two small tusks developing at the front of the mouth. Finding no runes, the Forewoman discards it, but a person wearing a deep hood offers you silver for it.
4 - You see the glow of the runes through the peat before you reach the tusk. A complete rune is prominent on the tusk. On your way to the Forewoman's hut another miner approaches you and says they'll make you a better deal if you follow them now. They will, of course, try to mug you.
5 - Three tusks, each carved with a rune, linked together with what looks like bronze. chains. Holding them, you see the light of the glowing runes match the beating of blood in your veins. +d10 HP while you wear the chain.
6 - You unearth a tusk of unprecedented size. Carved with dozens of complete runes. The Forewoman's eyes widen when she runs out of weights. She tells you to wait for tomorrow when the next payroll arrives.

The Ghoul pushes a great bundle of corpses ahead of itself. Every movement accompanied by the sound of compressed flesh and cracking bone. Every now and again the faint whimper of a near-dead person, collected too soon.

Carved bone and wood slot together to form a smooth, featureless helmet with a sharp crescent pointing towards the sky. If you call out to it, a voice conjured from the buzzing of a thousand filigree wings speaks out:

“Do not stand in the way of my morsels, lest you join the banquet.”

If you try to interrupt the ghoul in its work, it will stop immediately and attack you. If the ghoul is killed, their helmet bursts into 1000 beetles that scatter every which way.

THE HARVESTER
The stars fall, and Melvung swallows them, and as the dawn breaks he bleeds onto the ground.
A year ago Franglein planted roses at the base of Melvung’s monolith. They soak up the blood and the star stuff, and they sprout thorns as thick and black as a broken thumb. Once a week Franglein comes to harvest them.
She wears gloves lined with lead and wool. Even still, the thorns whisper to her in languages that predate the world. She sells them to anyone willing to pay; merceneries seeking weapons that wound the soul, occultists who grind them into powder, the dying who hope to draw one more breath before the void takes them.
She knows where three other wizards are bound, and will tell you their locations for 500 silver each.

Starblood thorn
d4 damage. On a hit, Test Presence DR14 or hear the voices from beyond the stars and become distracted (−2 to all rolls) for d6 rounds.
When ground and consumed, restores d6 HP but permanently reduces Strength by 1. The user’s blood glows faintly in darkness.

The map showed only a simple path through open land, but for the last hour you’ve been walking through an ever-thickening mass of wicked plants. The way is cruel, snagging at your clothes and skin, but there is a way. At it’s heart you find a cottage, and at it’s heart hums a gardener, plump, but with dozens of bandages on their fingers and bare arms.

“Welcome, travellers, to my vicious
bowery! Rest a while, it’s a rare trouble that finds its way to my home with any blood left in their veins.”

They’ve got all manner of violent delights for you to sample. Blackberries, plums, and quinces galore. Agar for your wounds. All the ‘-thorns’ and barberries.

The Gardener will sell you seeds of spontaneous growth. When thrown to the ground, thick ropes of ‘Devils Walking Stick’ will rush upwards, creating impassable terrain.

If thrown at someone’s feet, that person is entangled, and takes d4 damage.

You're still a league away from the tower when it explodes. By the time you get there arcane flames burn white, turning the stones at the top of the tower to lava that streams down the side. Within the crack and fizz of the magical fire, you hear a long, high, helpless wail.

Inside, The Wizard's workstation is in pieces. Crumpled at the bottom of the opposing wall are The Wizard's robes and tools of office. Within those robes a small baby tries, and fails, to complete an arcane gesture.

The grinding tear of wood and stone above you grows deafening. You have only seconds before the rest of the tower collapses. Time only to grab one thing...

The Wizard's Hat - Wearing this, you are unquestionably, absolutely and incontrovertibly The Wizard. You gain all the associated benefits, as well as the enemies, of his station.
Wand of Sanctuary - The last remnant of an ancient willow tree, long lost. So long as you hold it, you will always be granted shelter if you ask for it.
Orb Of Knowing - Incredibly fragile. If you speak a secret to it, there is no way it can be shared until another secret takes its place. If you break it, the secret will be projected into the minds of everyone within a 20 mile radius.
The Ten-Stride Staff - You can cover five times the normal distance in a days travel, or twice that if you want to bring your companions with you.
Midnight Robe - Once every cycle of the moon, you can immediately throw the surrounding area into moonless night for thirty minutes. You become incredibly hard to see.
The Child - They appear to remember their magic. What else do they remember? Keep him alive long enough and you may find out.

You're told the woman you're meeting is a grave robber, but you've never seen a grave robber who wears this much silk and gold. She takes your hand, but does not shake it. Looks into your eyes. Sees potential. She invites you into her rooms, lavishly draped in pillows and weaves. Despite her bare feet she towers over you.

The perks of what she offers are self-evident. The dangers she takes the time to explain:

You can touch neither willow nor amber, nor step into water deeper than your ankle and it is best to be far away from farmland when the harvest season comes.

If you accept these conditions, she will pass on a sliver of the master to you. If you do not... she smiles, revealing teeth belonging to something entirely inhuman. You will have to fight your way out.

Once the sliver is in place, she takes your hand in her again. This time, you feel your piece pull towards hers. She calls you brother.

Leaving the tavern, you become aware of the graveyard to the edge of the town. You know exactly how many bodies lie there. More to the point, you know what they were buried with, and what is worth digging up.

Side effects:
You can sense when you're near crypts and burial sites.
You can feel whenever precious metals have been buried in the earth.
Objects made from amber or willow burn your skin.
You are compelled to examine fresh-turned earth.
