“I’m 15! I’m not resisting!”

ICE agents in Illinois dragged a teenage girl from a car, slammed her face-down, and knelt on her neck.

This is what state-sanctioned terror looks like in America. #BlueSky #NewsSky

Maybe immigration is not your top issue. Or maybe you have nuanced views on immigration — like most Americans.

But what they are doing right now to immigrants in our country is unspeakably cruel and unjust.

How each of us responds to it and whether we speak out is the moral test of our times.
Amid the smoke bombs and screams that ricocheted throughout a South Shore building last month during a massive military-style immigration raid, one man heard a knock on his door.

On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.

“I wasn’t planning on letting her stay, but I didn’t know what the hell was going on,” the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed.

“I didn’t want them to take her,” said the man, who didn’t want to be named because he fears he’ll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions.

“I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her, ‘Just stay there. Don’t open, don’t, shh, just stay quiet,’” he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears.

Evictions in DC reached record levels in 2024.

The data for 2025 so far shows that the number of evictions per month this year is even higher.

More DC families than ever are losing their homes, yet rental assistance has been slashed and protections for tenants are actively being gutted.

The Trump Administration fired thousands of dedicated lifelong civil servants and replaced them with people like this.
“In late July, Paul Ingrassia, the White House liaison for the Department of Homeland Security, arrived at a Ritz-Carlton in Orlando with a lower-ranking female colleague and others from their department. When the group reached the front desk, the woman learned she didn’t have a hotel room.

Ingrassia then informed her that she would be staying with him, according to five administration officials familiar with the episode. Eventually the woman discovered that Ingrassia had arranged ahead of time to have her hotel room canceled so she would have to stay with him, three of those officials said.”

There were subtle hints this may happen, like when the President posted on Truth Social ordering the Attorney General to bring criminal charges.

Pope Leo XIV has blasted how wealthy people live in a “bubble of comfort and luxury” while the poor suffer. In his first teaching document Thursday, Leo confirms that he is in perfect lockstep with Pope Francis on matters of social injustice.

NEW: A charter bus company will pay $85,000 and adopt strong anti-idling measures across its entire bus fleet.

DC Trails repeatedly violated anti-idling laws and operated without a required basic business license for more than three years.

We will always enforce the District's air pollution laws.

Pope Leo XIV: "I often wonder, even though the teaching of Sacred Scripture is so clear about the poor, why many people continue to think that they can safely disregard the poor."

Really disappointing to see how many people on here are defending this.

Katie Porter has consistently shown that she treats her staff terribly.

There are several other progressive Democrats running for Governor in California. We do not need to defend the indefensible.

People who treat their staff this terribly should not hold elected office.

Someone who used to work with Katie Porter sent me this clip from a train wreck interview with her and said “now imagine what she’s like when there aren’t cameras around.”

Do folks signed up for the Empower rideshare app know that the company has used their email addresses to send out thousands of emails to elected officials over the last 72 hrs?

There appears to be about 6 different scripts. But this cosplay of AAVE really had me 🤔.

Oh it's near impossible to keep up with all the absurdity taking place! Let's all do our best to keep an eye out and fight back.

3 of the 13 anti-DC bills were passed by the House with some support from Democrats.

That includes the bill that would allow children as young as 14 to be charged as adults. The others may be voted on by the full House in coming weeks.

But none of the 13 bills have made it through the Senate yet.
House votes to charge D.C. 14-year-olds as adults
The House also voted to restrict judges from giving lighter sentences to young adults, among 14 D.C. crime-related policy proposals from the GOP.
