Vaccination coverage in some areas of London has fallen quite low but for UK as a whole, the 6 in 1 coverage at 5 yrs is over 93%. Varies a little but most of us remain quite sane- fortunately.

The ECHR was designed to serve as a protection of the rights of the individual against the power of the state. Many of its articles were direct answers to the abuses of the Nazi era.

🚨🚨 "The ECHR is not some foreign imposition that curtails our sovereignty. It was born of British leadership after the horrors of the Second World War, drafted with heavy British influence, and championed by Winston Churchill himself". Great stuff by Sir Robert Buckland KC:

Congratulations! #TimorLeste has been certified malaria-free by WHO.

Since gaining independence in 2002, the country has made remarkable progress to #EndMalaria, reducing cases from a peak of over 223 000 in 2006 to zero indigenous cases from 2021 onwards. 👉 bit.ly/3UqU04X

Unfortunately for Americans who want to not experience things like "bubonic plague," we also can't write NIH or NSF grants about this kind of thing anymore. I dunno, seems important

Now is the time that I remind you that, while plague has been endemic in the western United States for 70+ years and this is a normal occurrence, our work does seem to strongly suggest climate change is increasing spillover risk onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

🚨BREAKING: Cal State LA just moved classes online and let faculty work remotely, not for a storm, not for COVID, but because ICE is in the area.

Let that sink in, an entire university is treating immigration enforcement like a public health crisis.

The UK will become the first country to offer a vaccine program against gonorrhea.

It will use the MenB vaccine, which is caused by a close genetic relative to gonorrhea, and offers some ‘cross-protection’ against it.

Efficacy is moderate, but could prevent 100k infections over the next decade.
Gonorrhoea vaccine to be rolled out in England from August
The treatment will be offered to those most at risk from August after a record number of cases.

New RSV vaccines & antibodies have reduced infant hospitalizations.

Among the youngest infants, hospitalisations for RSV were halved in the US.

But only around half of eligible infants received the vaccines last season. With higher vax rates, hospitalization rates could be reduced even more.

The trade-off between different objectives is at the heart
of political decision making. Public health, economic
growth, democratic solidarity, and civil liberties are
important factors when evaluating pandemic responses.
There is mounting evidence that these objectives do not
need to be in conflict in the COVID-19 response. Countries
that consistently aim for elimination—ie, maximum
action to control SARS-CoV-2 and stop community
transmission as quickly as possible—have generally fared
better than countries that opt for mitigation—ie, action
increased in a stepwise, targeted way to reduce cases so
as not to overwhelm health-care systems.1
