Re-upping the reorg action from last month :(
#onted #onpoli #tdsb
WHAT CAN PARENTS & CAREGIVERS DO?
ACTION
01
CALL and EMAIL
The Minister of Education, Paul Calandra (416) 325-2600;
TDSB Supervisor
Rohit Gupta 416-395-8787,
Premier
Doug Ford (416) 325-1941,
and Your MPP! WHAT CAN PARENTS & CAREGIVERS DO?
ACTION
02
Demand transparency in communication and decision making from The Supervisor
03
Tell the Supervisor, the Minister, Your MPP how your school community and/or your child(ren) are impacted by the disruption of reorganization this year.
04
Ask "How will reorganizations that are not associated with enrollment changes be prevented in future to ensure stability for children and staff?" WHAT CAN PARENTS & CAREGIVERS DO?
ACTION
05
Demand to reinstate trustees as they are our local, democratically elected representatives. In a typical year, Trustees would be integral to minimizing disruption to learning during the reorg process through meeting with superintendent and principals and advocating for the unique needs of individual schools. WHAT CAN PARENTS & CAREGIVERS DO?
ACTION
06 Ask the Minister of Education,
"How will you fund education systems to ensure that schools that do not fit the teacher funding model (e.g. small schools) are supported in a way that does not create negative impacts across other schools in the system?"

And a mini reorganization explainer. Why it’s so much worse this year. #onted #onpoli
WHAT IS
REORGANIZATION
AND WHY IS IT SO
DISRUPTIVE THIS YEAR?
The reorganization process happens every year in September to balance the actual enrollment numbers against the projected numbers from the spring. This year seems to be particularly disruptive as it appears the needs of individual schools and students have not been taken
into account in the process and the board has been forcing schools to make changes based purely on numbers rather than the unique circumstances of each school.
In a typical year, trustees meet with superintendents and school representatives and advocate for the schools' needs on an individual basis. It is within the power of the board to maintain staff to reduce disruption. Trustees also communicate changes and decision making processes to schools, school councils, parents and caregivers.

It’s been the case for years in #OntEd, especially in smaller schools, and even before Ford.
It’s not necessarily always “bad” to combine couple of grades, only IF properly supported (EA, team teaching), but THREE grades? With ZERO additional support!?
Nope.👎

I am writing this because it has swiftly become crystal clear to me that many people have no idea what is happening or how this works. Here is a thread for non-academics to put into context what just happened to Dr. Mark Bray, a fellow historian.

A gift article worth reading on Machado--the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. This is how it's done. #PeacePrize #Democracy

Congratulations to Maria Corina Machado, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize - her incredible optimism has already changed her country. I spoke to her, and wrote about her, at the beginning of this year:
